In Chapter 5, we introduced the concept of SHE culture. It deals with shared values and beliefs of the members of an industrial organisation that determine their commitment to the organisation s SHE management systems and achievements. We will here use the term safety climate to denote such aspects of an organisation that are possible to measure by use of a questionnaire-based survey and where the results meet statistical criteria for aggregation to the organisational level (Cox and Elin, 1998). Results of such attitude surveys are used as performance indicators at the organisational level. [Pg.255]

A survey of computer use in university courses has been carried out by Miles and Francis 149). Due to poor response rate of a Web-based questionnaire, the findings were skewed toward those faculty members who were using computers in their course. The most widely used application among the respondents was the spreadsheet, while the use of molecular modeling, and symbolic mathematics software lagged behind. The authors recommended that teachers should develop more computer-based activities, exploit fully the Web resources, and transfer effectively technical skills. They also provided a list of relevant Web sites, but in the time elapsed since that publication, the currently available Web material must be greatly enhanced, both in terms of number of materials available and in terms of quality of content. [Pg.100]

The weighting was done based on the size of the population age 15-19 in each country. The present report was prepared by a coordinating committee made up of the chairmen of the five panels involved in earlier reports, epidemiologists who had served on those panels, and one newly appointed person. It is based largely on the work of Robert Keehn of the National Research Council s Medical Follow-up Agency, which had primary responsibility for conducting a questionnaire survey of test subjects to evaluate aspects of their current health, family status, and lifestyle. [Pg.5]

Each computer table consists of several panels representing current age categories in 1984 (the survey year) and a "total" panel representing the sum of all age groups. The responses to the various questions of the questionnaire are defined by the labels in the left margin. Table 9 deals with whether the volunteers requested information about the results of the study. The percentages are based on column totals for a given panel. [Pg.110]

Qualitative information on exposure can be obtained from study subjects using questionnaires or interviews.
