The technology is presently being scaled up to commercial operation in the Republic of Italy. In a project jointly funded by the E.U. and private investment, a 50 dry ton per day facility is currently under construction. This facility is designed to operate on a mixture of paper sludge, agricultural residue and waste paper. The output products will be primarily levulinic acid and levulinate esters for fuel use. In this facility, the char residue will be gasified to produce a medium BTU auxiliary fuel gas for the boilers. Commercial scale plants are currently planned for Ireland, U.K. and U.S. [Pg.283]

Beginning in 1908, Hoechst initiated a research project jointly with Paul Ehrlich that led to the discovery of Salvarsan. Bayer s immediate reaction was to hire a pupil of Ehrlich, who established a similar programme at Bayer Hoechst, by contrast, still cooperated for some time with Paul Ehrlich s own research institute, the Georg-Speyer-Haus. [Pg.289]

The industry is increasingly acknowledging the value of oontractors and service companies in improving their individual core capabilities through alliances, i.e. a joint venture for a particular project or a number of projects. A lead contractor e.g. a drilling company may form alliances with a number of sub contractors to be able to cover a wider spectrum of activities e.g. completions, workovers and well interventions. [Pg.63]

As discussed in Sections 13.0 and 14.0, the management of operating expenditure (opex) is a major issue, since initial estimates of opex are often far exceeded in reality, and may threaten the profitability of a project. Within the FDP, it is therefore useful to specify the system which will be used to measure the opex. Without measuring opex, there is no chance of managing it. This will involve the joint effort of production operations, finance and accounting, and the development managers. [Pg.286]

To prepare simulated free-of-noise 3D images of a complex body For this target the image of an internal pore in the real welding joint with extracted noise was used. The ray tracer model was applied for the simulation of five projections of the selected image. [Pg.117]

Of all NTD methods for quality control of materials, products, welded and soldered joints the most informative and perspective are radioscopic ones that enable to obtain a visual image of an inner structure of a tested objects in real time under any projection. [Pg.449]

These are just a few examples, but there are many more. At the moment. Joint Industry Projects are underway to identify and validate NDT methods for certain applications, and to optimise them where necessary. [Pg.951]

OPTIMISE, a joint industry project, supported by EC-ESPRIT funding is such a project, where techniques are identified, optimised and validated for the inspection of bulk carriers, with the aim to increase the inspection scope and thus the safety level, at the same time reducing the time needed for the inspections. [Pg.951]

The project "Non-Invasive Inspection within an Asset Risk Management Strategy" is another joint industry project, funded by EC-THERMIE, representing the current trend towards onstream (non-invasive) inspection in combination with risk-based inspection philosophies to establish component condition. In this project, industry and authorities participate aiming at a beneficial use of today s NDT without sacrificing on safety. [Pg.951]

The SWISS-PROT database [36] release 40.44 (February, 2003) contains over 120 000 sequences of proteins with more than 44 million amino adds abstracted from about 100 000 references. Besides sequence data, bibHographical references, and taxonomy data, there are highly valuable annotations of information (e.g., protein function), a minimal level of redundancy, and a high level of integration with other databases (EMBL, PDB, PIR, etc.). The database was initiated in 1987 by a partnership between the Department of Medicinal Biochemistry of the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and the EMBL. Now SWISS-PROT is driven as a joint project of the EMBL and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). [Pg.261]

Apparatus. The apparatus is made of Pyrex glass, in one piece. It consists of a shaped bulb A (Fig. 89 of about 30 ml. capacity in which the reaction takes place, provided with an inclined inlet B at the side and a vertical ascension tube D. B serves not only as an inlet for the admission of the carrier gas but also as the route by which the reagents and test sample are introduced into the apparatus. B ends in a small ground-glass joint into which fits ajoint carrying a capillary-tube which projects well down into the bulb A (the end of the capillary should be just above the liquid level when the apparatus is charged for the determination). The upper extension of this capillary beyond the joint is provided with a tap C to control the rate of flow of the carrier gas. [Pg.498]

Because of projected nylon-6,6 growth of 4—10% (167) per year in the Far East, several companies have announced plans for that area. A Rhc ne-Poulenc/Oriental Chemical Industry joint venture (Kofran) announced a 1991 startup for a 50,000-t/yr plant in Onsan, South Korea (168,169). Asahi announced plans for a 15,000-t/yr expansion of adipic acid capacity at their Nobeoka complex in late 1989, accompanied by a 60,000-t/yr cyclohexanol plant at Mizushima based on their new cyclohexene hydration technology (170). In early 1990 the Du Pont Company announced plans for a major nylon-6,6 complex for Singapore, including a 90,000-t/yr adipic acid plant due to start up in 1993 (167). Plans or negotiations for other adipic acid capacity in the area include Formosa Plastics (Taiwan) (171) and BASF-Hyundai Petrochemical (South Korea) (167). Adipic acid is a truly worldwide... [Pg.245]

A computer file of about 19,000 peak wavenumbers and intensities, along with search software, is distributed by the Infrared Data Committee of Japan (IRDC). Donated spectra, which are evaluated by the Coblentz Society in coUaboration with the Joint Committee on Atomic and Molecular Physical Data (JCAMP), are digitized and made avaUable (64). Almost 25,000 ir spectra are avaUable on the SDBS system developed by the NCLl as described. A project was initiated at the University of California, Riverside, in 1986 for the constmction of a database of digitized ftir spectra. The team involved also developed algorithms for spectra evaluation (75). Other sources of spectral Hbraries include Sprouse Scientific, Aston Scientific, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). [Pg.121]

GORE. The CORE Electronic Chemistry Library is a joint project of Cornell University, OCLC (On-line Computer Library Center), Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), and the American Chemical Society. The CORE database will contain the full text of American Chemical Society Journals from 1980, associated information from Chemical Abstracts Service, and selected reference texts. It will provide machine-readable text that can be searched and displayed, graphical representations of equations and figures, and full-page document images. The project will examine the performance obtained by the use of a traditional printed index as compared with a hypertext system (SUPERBOOK) and a document retrieval system (Pixlook) (6,116). [Pg.131]

Mihtary interest in the development of fuel and thermal resistant elastomers for low temperature service created a need for fluorinated elastomers. In the early 1950s, the M. W. Kellogg Co. in a joint project with the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps, and 3M in a joint project with the U.S. Air Force, developed two commercial fluorocarbon elastomers. The copolymers of vinyUdene fluoride, CF2=CH2, and chlorotrifluoroethylene, CF2=CFC1, became available from Kellogg in 1955 under the trademark of Kel-F (1-3) (see Fluorine compounds, ORGANic-POLYcm.OROTRiFLUOROETHYLENE Poly(vinylidene) fluoride). In 1956, 3M introduced a polymer based on poly(l,l-dihydroperfluorobutyl acrylate) trademarked 3M Brand Fluorombber 1F4 (4). The poor balance of acid, steam, and heat resistance of the latter elastomer limited its commercial use. [Pg.508]

Review Policy The review policy should estabhsh when project safety reviews should be done. All capital projects, large or small, should have one or more safety reviews during the course of the project. The number and types of review shoiild be stated in a management policy. Any reasons for exceptions to the policy should oe documented as well. The policy should address not only projects internal to a company, but also any joint ventures or turnkey projects by outside firms. [Pg.2285]

Figure 8 A joint principal coordinate projection of the occupied regions in the conformational spaces of linear (Ala) (triangles) and its conformational constraint counterpart, cyclic-CAla) (squares), onto the optimal 3D principal axes. The symbols indicate the projected conformations, and the ellipsoids engulf the volume occupied by the projected points. This projection shows that the conformational volume accessible to the cyclic analog is only a small subset of the conformational volume accessible to the linear peptide, (Adapted from Ref. 41.)...
