Coblentz Society

A computer file of about 19,000 peak wavenumbers and intensities, along with search software, is distributed by the Infrared Data Committee of Japan (IRDC). Donated spectra, which are evaluated by the Coblentz Society in coUaboration with the Joint Committee on Atomic and Molecular Physical Data (JCAMP), are digitized and made avaUable (64). Almost 25,000 ir spectra are avaUable on the SDBS system developed by the NCLl as described. A project was initiated at the University of California, Riverside, in 1986 for the constmction of a database of digitized ftir spectra. The team involved also developed algorithms for spectra evaluation (75). Other sources of spectral Hbraries include Sprouse Scientific, Aston Scientific, and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). [Pg.121]

Up-to-date compendiums on applications of infrared spectroscopy in applied polymer science are as follows. "An Infrared Spectroscopy Atlas for the Coatings Industry" (95) describes techniques, has liberal references to specific methods, and contains high-quality grating reference spectra on paint components and blended compositions. "Atlas of Polymer and Plastics Analysis," 2nd ed., by Hummel and Scholl (96), has issued two volumes Vol. 1, Polymers Vol. 3, on Additives and Processing Aids Vol. 2, on Plastics, Fibers, Rubbers, Resins, is in press. "Infrared Spectra of Plasticizers and Other Additives," 2nd ed., published by The Coblentz Society, Inc., is a high-quality IR reference spectrum collection (97). [Pg.712]

Bellamy (110) and Colthup (111) are the best recognized and most extensive references on group frequency interpretation, and an easy-to-use introduction to group frequencies and a summary of major compound classes are in the Coblentz Society s "Desk Book" (112). [Pg.722]

The practical limit of these search systems is now only one of having adequate quality data bases available. Several technical groups address themselves to this problem. Among the leaders are the Joint Committee on Atomic and Molecular Physical Data, whose secretary is from the National Standard Reference Data Center of the National Bureau of Standards, Washington, D.C., and The Coblentz Society, Inc., whose secretary is at Perkin-Elmer Corporation, Norwalk, Conn. [Pg.731]

The Coblentz Society maintains a collection of high quality and verified spectra which are sold by the Sadtier Research Laboratories. A microfilm edition of these spectra is available from Mrs. Clara D. Smith, Editor, Coblentz Society Spectra, P.O. Box 584, Princeton, New Jersey 08540. Volumes 1 through 7 are now available, and they meet the Coblentz Society specifications for Approved Analytical Spectra (see Anal. Chem. 38, No. 9, p. 27A, Aug., 1966). [Pg.537]

Although there is no compilation of spectra of lipid materials at present, several general collections are available and may be of interest. The Coblentz Society Desk Book of Infrared Spectra (Craver, 1977) contains 860 high-quality spectra selected from their collection of 11 000 spectra. It also contains infor-... [Pg.387]

Coblentz Society Spectra (published by the Sadtler Research Laboratories)... [Pg.347]

The Coblentz Society has been collecting spectra of high quality from various laboratories, and marketing them through the Sadtler Research Laboratories marketing facilities. This group of spectrograms, while only a few thousand in number, is of excellent quality. [Pg.347]

The Coblentz Society publish infrared spectra of numerous compounds, gases and vapours, halogenated hydrocarbons, plasticisers, and industrial chemicals. A large collection of spectra may be found in the Documentation of Molecular Spectroscopy (DMS) system which also covers Raman and micro-wave spectroscopy. The American Petroleum Institute (API) have published a large collection of spectra, mainly of hydrocarbons and compounds relevant to the petroleum industry. The Infrared Data Committee of Japan (1RDC) ° published a collection similar to that of DMS. Mecke and Langenbucher have published a small collection of infrared spectra of selected chemical compounds. [Pg.48]

JCAMP is an organization sponsored jointly by the American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, American Society for Mass Spectrometry, American Society for Testing and Materials, the Coblentz Society, the Optical Society of America, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and the Spectroscopy Society of Canada. The committee has been the source of several spectroscopic data exchange protocols. The first for IR spectroscopic data was published in 1988 and others for chemical stmcture (CS) data, NMR and MS were published in 1991, 1993, and 1994, respectively. Various other techniques have produced drafts for JCAMP-DX standards but have not reached publication. [Pg.2692]
