The recent advances in producing, trapping and cooling antiprotons and positrons opened the possibility of antihydrogen formation in laboratory. This may allow the studies of antimatter and tests of fundamental physical principles such as charge - parity - time ( CPT ) invariance or the weak equivalence principle (WEP) for antiparticles. Such experiments are planned at the newly built CERN AD (Antiproton Decelerator) within ASACUSA, ATRAP and ATHENA projects, which have just started their operations. [Pg.186]

Mark Kramer I would like to turn the discussion momentarily to educational computing. My point of reference is Project Athena, which was undertaken at MIT as an Institute-wide initiative to bring computers into education. The question posed was, can we, by saturating MIT with computers, revolutionize the way we teach After five years of the project, there are now over 600 networked UNIX workstations deployed in clusters throughout the campus, all devoted to educational activities. [Pg.555]

Authentication Protocol In the context of a C/S system, authentication is the most important of the security services because other security services depend on it in some way. When a client wishes to establish a secure channel between the client and a server, the client and the server will wish to identify each other by authentication. There are three common protocols for implementing authentication three-way handshake authentication, trusted-third-party authentication, and public-key authentication. One of the trusted third-party protocols is Kerberos, a TCP/IP-based network authentication protocol developed as a part of the project Athena at MIT. Kerberos permits a client and a server to authenticate each other without any message going over the network in the clear. It also arranges for the secure exchange of session encryption keys between the client and the server. The trusted third-party is sometimes called an authentication server. [Pg.733]
