Educating the Patient and Family Nurses can do much to educate others on the importance of having their blood pressure checked at periodic intervals. This includes people of all ages because hypertension is not a disease seen only in older individuals. Once hypertension is detected, patient teaching becomes an important factor in successfully returning the blood pressure to normal or near normal levels. [Pg.405]

Mr. Rodriguez, age 68 years, is taking amiloride for hypertension. He and his wife stopped by the clinic for a routine blood pressure check, Mrs. Rodriguez states that her husband has been confused and very irritable for the last 2 days. He complains of nausea and has had several loose stools. Discuss what actionsyou would take, giving a rationale for each action. [Pg.455]

Ensure that the rated maximum inlet pressure of fee regulator is not less than fee cylinder supply pressure. (For cylinder pressures up to 200 bar, pressure regulators should comply wife BS 5741. For higher cylinder pressures check wife fee manufacturer that the pressure regulator has been shown to be suitable by appropriate testing.)... [Pg.302]

With estrogen-based therapy, there should be yearly breast exams, monthly breast self-examinations, and periodic mammograms. Women on hormonal therapy should undergo annual monitoring, including pelvic examination, blood pressure checks, and routine endometrial cancer surveillance. [Pg.364]

Clonidine can attenuate the noradrenergic hyperactivity of opiate withdrawal without interfering significantly with activity at the opiate receptors. Monitoring should include blood pressure checks, supine and standing, at least daily. [Pg.848]

Are the proper maintenance materials (parts, etc.) available Yes. They include spare pigtails for the supply cylinders, as well as a rotameter and a pressure check valve. Other items must be ordered. [Pg.44]

Hypertensive crises are characterized initially by headache, but can evolve to include neck stiffness, chest discomfort, palpitations, confusion, and, ultimately, hemorrhage or stroke. Treatment of MAOI-associated hypertension may include a watch-and-wait stance by the patient if the symptoms are mild. Some patients have the ability to check and monitor their own blood pressure. Others may consult with a physician for blood pressure checks and observation, but if symptoms are severe, the patient may need to go to an emergency room or self-medicate. Standard emergency room treatment is intravenous phentolamine, an a-adrenergic blocker, continuous monitoring and management until blood pressure is normalized without medication. Some doctors will provide patients with small doses of chlorpromazine or nifedipine to treat hypertension if a problem arises. [Pg.298]

Self-medication of a MAOI-induced hypertensive crisis is controversial. In a hypertensive crisis the lack of access to medical services may lead to even greater complications. A small dose of medication taken as part of a larger plan to blunt the rise in blood pressure may prevent serious complications. However, headache is common, has multiple causes, and patients may not accurately identify a headache due to hypertension without a blood pressure check. In addition, selfadministration of nifedipine, especially sublingually, may result in needless and perhaps dangerous drops in blood pressure. [Pg.298]

The model of ideal gases explains why gas pressure increases with increased temperature. By heating a gas, you add kinetic energy to the particles as a result, the particles collide with other objects more often and with greater force, so those objects experience greater pressure. (Check out Chapter 11 for details on gas laws.)... [Pg.150]

Under the Dynamics item, the vessel is specified to have CSTR-type dynamics with a diameter of 1 m and a length of 2 m, as shown in Figure 3.107. This corresponds to a residence time of 5 min for the given feed flowrate (0.1 kmol/s). The file is pressure-checked and exported as a pressure-driven dynamic simulation. [Pg.196]

The program in Aspen Plus is run and pressure-checked. It is then exported to Aspen Dynamics as a pressure-driven dynamic simulation as was done in Chapter 3 with CSTRs. The Aspen Dynamics file is opened, giving the window shown in Figure 6.37. The default control scheme has a pressure controller manipulating the valve in the reactor exit line. The simulation is run until all variables stop changing. [Pg.321]

The hie is pressure checked and exported into Aspen Dynamics. Figure 6.101 shows the default control structure. The pressures in each reactor and the liquid level in the separator are controlled. [Pg.358]

The file is pressure checked and exported into Aspen Dynamics. A flow controller is installed on the feed. A pressure controller is installed that holds reactor pressure by adjusting valve V24 in the process discharge line. Figure 7.30 shows the flowsheet with these controllers installed. [Pg.399]

It s best to have your blood pressure checked regularly, or you can buy a reliable meter for home use. In case of high blood pressure, consult your general practitioner. Often it s a matter of adjusting your diet and lifestyle, and in some cases medication is necessary. [Pg.128]

Why did Ms. L continue to see Ms. P even though she clearly needed psychiatric care more than therapy Ms. L saw fairly quickly that therapy was not particularly helpful to Ms. P while she was actively psychotic. She continued to see her so that she could serve as a bridge into the psychiatric care she saw as crucial to Ms. P s treatment. Because Ms. L was located in the same office as Dr. K (Ms. P s primary care physician), Ms. P found it very natural to come in to see her. She often made medical appointments or had her blood pressure checked while she was at the clinic. This comforted her by keeping her symptoms in the category of physical illness rather than mental illness, and it ultimately enabled her to trust Ms. L enough to follow her advice to see a psychiatrist. [Pg.109]
