Thermographic sensor Leak detection Leak location... [Pg.292]

Locational considerations include both surficial location and screened interval, ie, the sampling depth. The surficial location is selected based on whether the sample is to represent background quaUty or quaUty at the location of contamination, or potential leak location. In selecting the surficial location, the groundwater flow parameters, velocity and direction, are assumed to be known from other monitoring wells or borings already completed. [Pg.404]

Another more common example of a momentum break is the use of flange guards placed around flange joints in piping systems handling sulfuric acid or strong caustic. They knock down the liquid spray from a small leak, to prevent personnel injury, and also change color to indicate the leak location. [Pg.34]

One particular advantage with gas leak detectors is the constant distance from the leak to the thermal conductivity sensing device. This constant distance makes the time lag consistent wherever you are sniffing with the probe. When relying on installed thermocouples (on the vacuum system), a leak located right near the thermocouple will provide an immediate and full-strength response, whereas a leak some distance from the thermocouple will have a more subtle effect and will require some time before this effect is observed. [Pg.453]

Standard leaks come from the factory with their calibrated leak rate imprinted on their sides. The approximate annual attenuation is also indicated. After a certain amount of time (every 5 to 10 years) they can be returned to the factory for either recharging and/or recalibration. Recalibration is not critical if the helium leak detector is being used only for leak location and not leak calibration. [Pg.459]

After the leakage has been created, the flat expansion pressure waves are propagated in two converse sides. These waves have sonic speed and after clashing to the upstream and downstream boundaries, return to the form of compression or expansion wave depending on the edge type (Fig. 1). In the leak location, depending whether the ratio of pressure to ambient pressure is more or less than the CPR quantity, the equation of which is showed in equation (1), the flow will be sonic and ultrasonic or subsonic respectively. [Pg.120]

If the flow is sonic and ultra sonic, the sonic reporter wave does not leak from out of the pipe to enter the pipe. Hence, the changes of the flow field are accomplished due to the flat pressure waves and the real boundary conditions on the start and end of the pipe. The mass flow outlet of the hole also depends only on the stagnation pressure in the leak location and on the area of the hole and is not related to the form of the orifice cross section. [Pg.120]

However, if the flow in the leak location is subsonic, the hole could be the source of the production of a compression or expansion sonic wave and the effect on the flow field. In this situation, the pipe and leakage spot act as a T junction and the mass outflow of the leak location depends on the ambient pressure and a coefficient known as the empirical discharge coefficient in addition to the stagnation pressure and the orifice area. [Pg.120]

When the hole is created in the pipe surface, as is said, the pressure ratio to the ambient pressure below the hole, which is in the pipe, is more than the CPR in the later time steps. Therefore, the flow is checked in the hole location and the outflow of the leak location is calculated by the equation below [3] ... [Pg.124]

In continuing, the respective results and discussions for the pressure changes at the beginning (because of the propagation of the expansion wave from the leak location) and changes of mass flux by time are presented. [Pg.126]

After initial evacuation to approximately 1000 Hg, the tank was surrounded with an external helium atmosphere and the total leak rate measured by means of a mass spectrometer at the i-in. probe in the neck tube. Localization of leaks consisted of reducing the tank area enclosed by the helium envelope till the leak location was found repair consisted of painting with adhesive. [Pg.40]

Experience gained on this and some other leaks has shown that ITI system operation strongly depends on hydraulic mode of the secondary circuit and leak location. Later on, experimental studies and analysis of this system performance were carried out, thus allowing to refine its role in the set of leak indication devices. [Pg.132]

DBE-10 is a depressurization of the primary circuit and SCS cooldown. This results in a slow cooldown of the graphite internals structures and low thermal stress. For the postulated relief valve leak location, the depressurization flow exits between the circulator discharge and core inlet, thus decreasing core flow and thereby differential pressure. Structural loads on reactor internals graphite components are as a result not increased during the depressurization. [Pg.445]

Leak detection and leak location using radiotracer techniques are probably the most widespread applications of radiotracers in industrial troubleshooting. Leaks create problems in process plants or in pipelines, spoil the quality of the final product or reduce the capacity of oil and gas pipelines and contamination of surface or ground water and soil could also happen (IAEA, 2009) (IAEA, 2004). [Pg.173]

For leak detection and leak location in buried pipes the so called "pig technique" is used. Here the pig means a sensor for detecting and recording radiation signals from inside the pipeline. Radiation detection pag consists of a detector and data logger assembled together inside a compact watertight cylinder. Pig moves inside the pipelines. [Pg.173]

Install a fixed electric leak location system and monitor quarterly until the completion of waste disposal and annually thereafter. (A protocol has to be established in advance about how to proceed when a leak is indicated. This monitoring concept seems to be relevant only for single geomembrane liner, the alternative approach is the use of composite liner systems, see Chap. 9). [Pg.447]

The TECP suit is visually inspected and modified for the test. The test apparatus is attached to the suit to permit inflation to the pre-test suit expansion pressure for removal of suit wrinkles and creases. The pressure is lowered to the test pressure and monitored for three minutes. If the pressure drop is excessive, the TECP suit fails the test and is removed from service. The test is repeated after leak location and repair. [Pg.312]

C) shall be recorded along with the specific observation times. If the ending pressure (C) is less than 80 percent of the test pressure (B), the suit shall be identified as failing the test. When possible, the specific leak location shall be identified in the test records. Retest pressure data shall be recorded as an additional test. [Pg.312]
