Presentation educational

In the present educational set up the role of textbook is of prime importance. However we find that little attention is paid to this important aspect of education. Most of the textbooks in chemistry are not of good standard. They follow the prescribed syllabus too rigidly and no attention is paid to develop the topics according to the need and interest of students. A good textbook is one which is a source of knowledge arranged... 

Observe the patient and determine if dyskinetic movements are present and if the patient is aware of them. If present, educate the patient about dyskinesias and recommend appropriate interventions. 

It is not the broadening of an engineer s education that disserves the public, but the present educational system that does not train professionals to think holistically about the true impact of their technological and scientific creations in society. 

Our present educational systems do not eloquently describe the importance of exploration and production, which include both offshore and onshore drilling. Currently, approximately 25% of U.S. oil and natural gas production comes from offshore drilling rigs and facilities. Alaska is responsible for 18% of the U.S. oil and gas market. The government owns a bit more than one-third of the property in the United States. More than half of this land is set aside as protected areas, national parks, and wilderness areas. When oil and gas manufacturers develop hydrocarbon facilities on government lands, they are required to pay a royalty to the government. Oil and gas manufacturers pay billions in taxes to individual states and the federal government. 

The course instructors or professors have not tried to intentionally deceive their students. Most individuals cannot grasp the full depth and detail of any chemical concept the first time that it is presented to them. It has been found that most people learn complex subjects best when first given a basic description of the concepts and then left to develop a more detailed understanding over time. Despite the best elforts of educators, a few misconceptions are at times possibly introduced in the attempt to simplify complex material for freshmen students. The part of this process that perpetuates any confusion is the fact that texts and instructors alike often do not acknowledge the simplifications being presented. 

The scientific method is taught starting in elementary school. The first step in the scientific method is to form a hypothesis. A hypothesis is just an educated guess or logical conclusion from known facts. It is then compared against all available data and its details developed. If the hypothesis is found to be consistent with known facts, it is called a theory and usually published. The characteristics most theories have in common are that they explain observed phenomena, predict the results of future experiments, and can be presented in mathematical form. When a theory is found to be always correct for many years, it is eventually referred to as a scientific law. However useful this process is, we often use constructs that do not fit in the scientific method scheme as it is typically described.

Experimentally it has been shown that for air-water systems the value of Tj /Zc c, the psychrometric ratio, is approximately equal to 1. Under these conditions the wet-bulb temperatures and adiabatic-saturation temperatures are substantially equal and can be used interchangeably. The difference between adiabatic-saturation temperature and wet-bulb temperature increases with increasing humidity, but this effect is unimportant for most engineering calculations. An empirical formula for wet-bulb temperature determination of moist air at atmospheric pressure is presented by Liley [Jnt. J. of Mechanical Engineering Education, vol. 21, No. 2 (1993)]. 

The present book brings to the reader a state-of-the-art treatment of high-pressure shock compression of solids in a type of tutorial manner. It has been felt by the shock physics and engineering communities that there is a need for such a book to aid the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students of physics and engineering. We hope that the present book will partially fill that vacuum. We certainly welcome any comment or criticism on the content of this book, in the hope that these will be incorporated into later editions of the book.

The present occasion seems opportune to direct attention to the fact that one of the most familiar, most leadily procurable and most cheaply produced of all oiganic materials is placed beyond the reach of many students by the heavy duty levied upon it. May I, in the name of teachers of organic chemistry, appeal to the Board of Inland Revenue, on behalf of scientific and technical education, to provide institutions for higher education in science with a limited quantity of pure alcohol free of duty, thereby placing schools of chemistry in this country in the same position as those on the Continent ...
