Patent Assignees

Issuance of a United States patent transforms a patent appHcant into a patentee, and new concerns may arise relevant to management. For example, the patent should be reviewed to determine formal and substantive correctness. An audit should be taken regularly to determine whether there is a continuing justification to pay the maintenance fees required to keep the patent in force during its effective period. The patentee or patent assignee may have to address concerns of patent infringement or patent vaHdity. [Pg.36]

The time span covered by CLAIMS is unique chemical patents from 1950, nonchemical patents from 1963. The bibhographic information for pre-1970 patents is unfortunately replete with errors, especially with respect to inventor names. On the other hand, lEI has done an admirable job of standardizing patent assignee names and correcting discrepancies and errors in the originals. [Pg.61]

This section presents a list of US patents in descending chronological order. It shows the patent assignee and gives a very brief description of the patent content. Clearly Slurry expls are a very popular subject for patenting since the list contains 134 patents... [Pg.367]

Once a patent is issued by the USPTO, the interactions between the patentees and the USPTO with respect to that patent will greatly diminish but will not cease. At a minimum, the patent assignees will need to keep current with the patent maintenance fees if they wish the patent to remain enforceable over its entire lifetime (discussed in section 2.2.a). [Pg.46]

The Author Index is an alphabetical listing of names of authors, coauthors, inventors, and patent assignees linked to the CA abstract number. [Pg.6]

This book is based predominantly on the patent literature and provides how to data regarding the production, purification, and application of commercial enzymes. Coverage is not limited to food applications, and 70 subjects are grouped as Enzymes, Enzymatic Processing, Enzyme Stabilization, Polymer-Enzyme Products, Cell Culture, Protein Analysis, Nucleic Acids etc.. Amino Acids, Peptide Synthesis, and Applications. Indexing includes U.S. patent number, company and patent assignee, inventor, and subject. [Pg.29]

The financial value of Bayh-Dole to the academic community has proven to be incredible. In 2004 alone, American academic and non-profit institutions gained 1.39 billion in licensing revenue and applied for over 10,000 patents. The University of California, for example, currently ranks seventh on the list of top pharma/biotech patent assignees right between Novartis and Boehringer-Ingelheim. In the wake of Bayh-Dole the boundaries between public research and private enterprise have become harder to spot academia can be expected to contribute an increasing number of chnical candidates to the industry and academic research has consequently seen a major shift toward translational research, which is discussed in the next chapter. [Pg.32]

The Chemical Abstracts Service covers all patents dealing with aspects of chemistry or chemical engineering from 27 patent offices and two international organizations. From eight countries, however, only those chemistry and chemical engineering related patents are abstracted when the patent assignee is resident in one of these countries, that means the patent families from the other 19 countries are not continued for these 8 countries (Table 3). [Pg.25]

Each database document corresponds to a particular data record. Most data records are divided into separate fields, where systematic searching can be done, i.e. for authors names, patent assignees, publication years, titles, etc. Distinction is made between... [Pg.129]

Before starting a query you should know details about the file structure. All terms in a database are indexed. Distinction is made between Basic Index and Additional Index, In the Basic Index you will usually find all relevant terms from the fields - title, decriptors (keywords) and abstracts. The Additional Index contains the fields - authors names, inventors, patent assignees, source. [Pg.134]

So far our searches have been processed in the Basic Index. When authors, patent assignees and publication years are retrieved, field qualifiers must inevitably be added. [Pg.193]

The field Corporate Source (CS) names the organisation/institution where a publication was produced, or, in the case of a patent, the patent assignee(s). In this field, proximity operators are allowed, as the paragraph is single-word indexed. [Pg.194]

In the field Author (AU) authors and inventors are retrieved. When a search is restricted to the field Inventor (IN), only the inventors themselves can be found. The same is true for the field Corporate Source (CS) It contains names of companies, institutions and patent assignees, the field Patent Assignee (PA) contains only patent assignees. [Pg.200]
