Oscilloscope

The necessary material to perform annual verification of flaw detector is mainly composed of an electronic function generator, an external calibrated attenuator and an oscilloscope. [Pg.703]

Another advantage with the system is that the quality of the scanning, in terms of the angle towards the weld and track partition is increased compared to manual ultrasonic testing due to the fact that the scanning technician is able to concentrate on the object rather than on the oscilloscope while scanning. [Pg.862]

Direct time-dependent detection is limited by the response time of detectors, which depends on the frequency range, and the electronics used for data acquisition. In the most favourable cases, modem detector/oscilloscope combinations achieve a time resolution of up to 100 ps, but 1 ns is more typical. Again, this reaction has been of fiindamental theoretical interest for a long time [59, 60]. [Pg.2126]

Institute of Technology (MIT) [193]. Molecules were represented as line drawings on a homemade display (an oscilloscope (Figure 2-122). In addition, the system had diverse peripherals with many switches and buttons which allowed the modification of the scene. The heart of the. system was the. so-called Crystal Ball" which could rotate the molecule about all three orthogonal axes. This prototype cost approximately two million US dollars. [Pg.131]

The electric current is used to drive a recorder of some kind, which can be an oscilloscope, pen recorder, or galvanometer UV recorder. [Pg.408]

Erequendy, a single ultrasonic transducer serves both as the sender of the ultrasonic pulse and as a receiver for the sound waves reflected from surfaces and interior discontinuities. The receiver transforms the stress pulse back into electrical oscillations. AH of the signals are displayed on an oscilloscope screen for interpretation. Eor a material of length E having a wave speed C, the anomaly shown in Eigure 4 would reflect a signal back to the... [Pg.127]

From this it can be seen that vibration is the universal manifestation that something is wrong. Therefore, many units are equipped with instruments that continuously monitor vibration. Numerous new instruments for vibration analysis have become available. Frequency can be accurately determined and compared with computations, and by means of oscilloscopes the waveform and its harmonic components can be analyzed. Such equipment is a great help in diagnosing a source of trouble. [Pg.2505]

Figure 4.25. Experimental configuration for optical pyrometry of shock temperatures induced in transparent minerals. Upon impact of projectile with driver plate, a shock wave is driven into the driver plate and then into the sample. Optical radiation from the sample is detected via six lens/interference filter channels and an array of six photodiodes. Signals from photodiode circuits are recorded on oscilloscopes operating in single sweep model. (After Ahrens et al. (1982).)... Figure 4.25. The unit was built in a loop because the needed 85 standard m /hour gas exceeded the laboratory capabilities. In addition, by controlling the recycle loop-to-makeup ratio, various quantities of product could be fed for the experiments. The adiabatic reactor was a 1.8 m long, 7.5 cm diameter stainless steel pipe (3 sch. 40 pipe) with thermocouples at every 5 centimeter distance. After a SS was reached at the desired condition, the bypass valve around the preheater was suddenly closed, forcing all the gas through the preheater. This generated a step change increase in the feed temperature that started the runaway. The 20 thermocouples were displayed on an oscilloscope to see the transient changes. This was also recorded on a videotape to play back later for detailed observation. [Pg.158]

The three signals are fed into an oscilloscope as vertical-, horizontal-, and external-intensity marker input. The keyphazor appears as a bright spot on the screen. In cases where the orbit obtained is completely circular, the maximum amplitude of vibration occurs in the direction of the keyphazor. To estimate the magnitude of the correction mass, a trial-and-error process is initiated. With the rotor perfectly balanced, the orbit finally shrinks to a... [Pg.591]

A too MHz or higher bandwidth, time-based oscilloscope. The bandwidth is especially needed for switching power supply design. A digital oscilloscope may miss important transients on some of the key waveforms, so evaluate any digital oscilloscope carefully. [Pg.10]

An ac and/or dc current probe for the oscilloscope. Especially needed for switching power supply design. Some appropriate models are Tektronics P6021 or P6022 and A6302 or A6303, or better. [Pg.10]

The alternate method uses the proximity probes and an oscilloscope. A Lissajous figure is established on the oscilloscope. The orbit pattern and the keyphase mark are used to generate a vector. Weights are added or removed and the changes in the orbit are noted. Triangulation is used to anticipate the next move. For more complete information or technique, the reader is referred to a book on the subject by Jackson [ 1 ]. [Pg.378]

Sliop test facilities should include instrumentation with the capability of continuously monitoring and plotting rpm, peak-to-peak displacement, and phase angle (X-Y-Y ). Presentation of vibration displacement and phase marker by use of an oscilloscope makes visualization easier. [Pg.410]

Cathodoluminescence (CL), i.e., the emission of light as the result of electron-beam bombardment, was first reported in the middle of the nineteenth century in experiments in evacuated glass tubes. The tubes were found to emit light when an electron beam (cathode ray) struck the glass, and subsequendy this phenomenon led to the discovery of the electron. Currendy, cathodoluminescence is widely used in cathode-ray tube-based (CRT) instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, television and computer terminals) and in electron microscope fluorescent screens. With the developments of electron microscopy techniques (see the articles on SEM, STEM and TEM) in the last several decades, CL microscopy and spectroscopy have emerged as powerfirl tools for the microcharacterization of the electronic propenies of luminescent materials, attaining spatial resolutions on the order of 1 pm and less. Major applications of CL analysis techniques include ... [Pg.149]

The main categories of electrical/optical ceramics are as follows phosphors for TV, radar and oscilloscope screens voltage-dependent and thermally sensitive resistors dielectrics, including ferroelectrics piezoelectric materials, again including ferroelectrics pyroelectric ceramics electro-optic ceramics and magnetic ceramics. [Pg.271]

There are two categories of equipment which determine the selection of equipment general-purpose and special-to-type equipment. It should not be necessary to specify all the general-purpose equipment needed to perform basic measurements, which would be expected to be known by appropriately trained personnel. You should not need to tell an inspector or tester which micrometer, vernier caliper, voltmeter, or oscilloscope to use. These are the tools of the trade and they should select the tool which is capable of measuring the particular parameters with the accuracy and precision required. However, you will need to tell them which device to use if the measurement requires unusual equipment or the environmental conditions prevailing require that only equipment be selected that will operate in such an environment. In such cases the particular devices to be used should be specified in the test or inspection procedures. In order to demonstrate that you selected the appropriate device at some later date, you should consider recording the actual device used in the record of results. With mechanical devices this is not normally necessary because wear should be detected well in advance of there being a problem by periodic calibration. [Pg.410]
