Optimization layer

If substrate diffusion becomes rate determining, only a small fraction of the film at the film/solution interface will be used. On the other hand, if charge diffusion becomes rate determining, the catalytic reaction can take place only in a film fraction close to the electrode surface. Each of these effects will render parts of the film superfluous, and it is obvious that there is no sense in designing very thick redox films, rather there is an optimal layer thickness to be expected depending on the individual system. [Pg.63]

The electrodeposited precursor films prepared in our laboratory that produced high-efficiency devices were Cu-rich films. These precursor films required additional In, Ga, and Se, deposited by PVD, to adjust their final composition to Culni xGaxSe2. During this second step, the substrate temperature was maintained at 560 °C 10 °C. Figure 7.7 presents the Auger analysis of the final absorber and shows nonuniform distribution of Ga in the absorber and more Ga near the surface. This result is primarily from the second-stage PVD addition. The Ga hump is not helpful for hole collection. The device efficiencies are expected to increase by optimizing the Ga distribution in the absorber layers. The optimized layers should have less Ga in the front and more Ga on the back, which facilitates hole collection. [Pg.213]

The purpose of this chapter is to create a general framework that captures the dynamic effect of the simultaneous presence of both significant material recycle streams and purge streams. We will use this result presented in (Baldea and Daoutidis 2007) to rationalize at the theoretical level the development and use of a hierarchical process control structure, consisting of several interconnected control and optimization layers. [Pg.102]

The optimal layer thickness for the sensor methods depends on the method of observation and the analyte of interest. A good signal to noise ratio has to be obtained while the regeneration should be completed rapidly. [Pg.177]

Polycrystalline ZnO for window layers in solar cells are most frequently prepared by magnetron sputtering. Optimized layers have resistivities of 1.5-2x10 " Ocm with Hall mobilities of up to 60 cmWs, refractive indices of approximately 2.0 and an average transmittance of 85 % in the visible range. The best values of the mobility in optimized films have reached the... [Pg.208]

The monitoring uses formulas that take into account feed flow rates, targets calculated by the optimization layer of multivariable control, controlled variables upper and lower limits and other parameters. The economic benefits are based on the degrees of freedom and the active constraints at the steady state predicted by the linear model embedded in the controller. In order to improve the current monitoring, parameters dealing with process variability will be incorporated in the formulas. By doing this, it will be also possible to quantify external disturbances that affect the performance of the advanced control systems and identify regulatory control problems. [Pg.495]

As shown in Fig. 5, each layer considers two independent optimization sections the Solver and the Problem Formulation section. The former regards the optimization algorithm itself, while the latter regards the evaluation of the objective function (i.e., the function to be minimized and the constraints). Within the Generic Optimization layer, there are two abstract upper classes, which are the OptimizationAlgorithm and OptimizationProblem in the Solver and Problem Formulation sections. These two classes are connected in the sense that the OptimizationAlgorithm requires a defined... [Pg.67]

To implement the deterministic optimization approach, the sequential strategy proposed by Li et al. (1998) is used, where the whole algorithm is divided into one optimization layer with SQP as a standard NLP solver and one simulation layer, where all dependent variables are computed through an integration step. The model is a large scale DAE system which is discretized with collocation on finite elements. The whole batch time is discretized into 30 time intervals. The control variables are set as piecewise constants. The computed trajectories of the control variables for the optimal operation are illustrated in Fig. 1. [Pg.552]

Microreference elements (reference electrodes or reference field-effect transistors— REFETs) micromachined in silicon were precursors of screen-printed reference electrodes (e.g., [4-7]). The major motivation to look for optimal layered reference system was usually to buUd a potentiometric chip containing disposable sensing and reference electrode, preferably made in the same or similar layer application technology, e.g., thin-film technology, which can be regarded as direct ancestor of nowadays screen-printed reference elements. [Pg.326]

While not the optimal layer thickness for the Bragg stack, which would have dielectric layer thicknesses that are one-quarter of the wavelength of light that is to be filtered, it makes good use of the available layers in the... [Pg.90]
