Disposal of Containers

Proper disposal of containers is the responsibility of the user, even if ttie job is contracted out. The user still must verify that containers have been thoroughly emptied and, where necessary, effectively decontaminated before their final disposal. It is possible to recycle certain containers. Recycling can be done on site or by an outside firm who will reuse or sell the drums. 

Thorough cleaning is not possible with bags. The cleanability of flasks, carboys, cans, etc. depends on the type of container. Incineration, scrap recycling, and landfill are still the most frequent methods of fined disposal. Container disposal is also discussed in Section 2.7.5. 

Chemical processing facilities usually contain many pressurized pipelines. These lines may be at elevated or cryogenic temperatures and may convey flammable, toxic, reactive, or corrosive fluids.
