Multiple separations

One-dimensional multiple development and two-dimensional development Multiple developments through one or two dimensions can be applied to separate certain components in sequence, with detection at each step. This gives a theoretical increase in the capacity of the spots, so it is ideal for the separation of mixtures with a large number of components. In addition, it is a useful tool to confirm the purity of a given component. Though hyphenated HPLC could serve as a multiple separation technique, TLC takes the lead in this area by its faster separation and choice of different mobile phases and detection methods through each run. [Pg.421]

For example, as depicted in figure 9.1, an effective security layering approach requires that an adversary penetrate multiple, separate barriers to gain entry to a critical target at a chemical industry facility. As shown in figure 9.1, protection in depth (multiple layers of security) helps to ensure that the security system remains effective in the event of a failure or an intruder bypassing a single layer of security. [Pg.155]

Although the ROMs provide a compact and appealing description of electronic structure, this description is unsatisfactory in at least one respect, namely, expectation values calculated from ROMs are not manifestly extensive, so do not necessarily become additively separable in the limit of noninteracting subsystems. This basic flaw ultimately arises because the RDMs are multiplicatively separable rather than additively separable [28-32]. [Pg.266]

I l ) = I I a I b), and one says that is multiplicatively separable in the two subsystems, recognizing that in quantum mechanics ) is separable only up to an overall antisymmetrization (or a symmetrization, in the case of bosons) that renders all coordinates equivalent. The separation of the wavefunction in Eq. (12) is equivalent, in a necessary and sufficient sense, to the block structure of the Hamiltonian in Eq. (11) [32, 50-52]. [Pg.267]

Multiple Separators for More EfOcient Separation of Cholesterol from Beef Tallow. Since the solvent power of CO2 depends upon its density, a step-wise reduction of separation pressure will alter the CO2 density so that the soluble components of beef tallow can be separated and collected in different fractions. [Pg.123]

Use of ethanol as a co-solvent with SC-CO2 enhances the extraction of cholesterol from dried muscle foods. High extraction pressure coupled with multiple separation vessels for gradual reduction of SC-CO2 density reduces the separation time necessary for separating cholesterol from beef tallow using less CO2 than extractions at lower pressure. Ethanol is a good co-solvent used with SC-CO2 for separating cholesterol from other lipids in beef tallow. [Pg.135]

There is an increasing number of areas where bioreactors are serious alternatives to conventional chemical reactors, particularly when their mild conditions and high selectivity can be exploited. In the pharmaceutical industry micro-organisms and enzymes can be used to produce specific stereo-isomers selectively, a very desirable ability since it can be that only the one isomer (possibly an optical isomer) may possess the required properties. In such applications the limitations of bioreactors are clearly outweighed by the advantages in their use. The fact that the products are formed in rather dilute aqueous solution and at relatively low rates may be of secondary importance and it may then be economically feasible to employ multiple separation stages in their purification. [Pg.253]

TLC is the preferred separation method because of its high separation efficiency, rapidity, and large variety of detection possibilities. Usually 0.5 mm thick silica-gel-G-plates are used, activated at 120°C for 30 min. in a supersaturated atmosphere. Well-known of poly techniques such as multiple separation in opposite or parallel direction allow the selectivities to be further increased. The selection of an appropriate mobile phases determines the efficiency of separation. Advantage is taken of specific interactions and also of reactivity with the stabilizers under investigation. [Pg.100]

Standard Test Methods on the other hand, specify procedures for carrying out measurements. In the case of emissions testing, methods are usually broken down into multiple separate sections covering sampling frequency, sample collection and preparation, emissions testing and vapor analysis (see below.) Test methods may also include lists of target compounds or compounds that are commonly... [Pg.132]

Cascade principle was also combined with cross-count horizontal scavenging [7] in a vertical vessel divided into separation and precipitation chambers, separated by a permeable grid with concave shelves (Fig. 2c). Particles fed from the top pour onto the upper shelf, glide down and fall of its edge where they are scavenged by the cross-current stream. Part of fines is carried into the precipitation chamber and the rest of the mixture falls onto the next shelf for repeated separation. After multiple separations, coarse fraction exits from the separation chamber and fines leave the precipitation chamber. The finest fraction exits with the stream and is collected in cyclones or filters. [Pg.282]

By combining multiple separate source containers of the same organic material in a parallel configuration the deposition rate can be linearly increased, leading, for example, to deposition rates of up to 60 A s-1 for two Alq3 sources. [Pg.208]

However, a single mixture (binary or multicomponent) can be separated into several products (single separation duty) and multiple mixtures (binary or multicomponent) can be processed, each producing a number of products multiple separation duties) using only one CBD column (Logsdon et al., 1990 Mujtaba and Macchietto, 1996 Sharif et al., 1998). [Pg.8]

Mujtaba and Macchietto (1996) extended the work or Mujtaba and Macchietto (1993) to include multiple separation duties. Logsdon et al. (1990) also considered multiple separation duties using short-cut model. Some of these works are presented in Chapter 7. [Pg.155]

Mujtaba and Macchietto (1996) presented a more general formulation for optimal design and operation, dealing in particular with multiple separation duties, multicomponent mixtures, more complex operations (involving off-cuts) and more general objective functions. The method utilises a dynamic model (Type IV, Chapter 4) of the column in the form of a generic system of DAEs. Models of various rigor (type III and V, etc. of Chapter 4) can therefore be used. [Pg.193]

Mujtaba and Macchietto (1996) presented a general design and operation optimisation problem formulation and solution for single and multiple separation duties. [Pg.199]
