Mixed types

Mixing of sohds is an important unit operation in the production of solids with consistent properties. A number of properties of the solid particles influence the mixing process, the design, and selection of mixing equipment. The second subsection elaborates on the theoiy of mixing, types of mixing equipment, and their operation. [Pg.1755]

Nozzle-Mix Burners The most widely used industrial gas burners are of the nozzle-mix type. The air and fuel gas are separated until they are rapidly mixed and reacted after leaving the ports. Figure 27-32c, d, e,f, h shows some examples of the variety of nozzle-mix designs in use. These burners allow a wide range of fuel-air ratios, a wide vari-... [Pg.2392]

With local cathodic protection, the off potential measurement cannot be used directly to check the protective action because, due to the mixed type of installation of the protected object and foreign cathodic structures in the soil, there is a considerable flow of cell currents and equalizing currents. The notes to Eq. (3-28) in Section 3.3 are relevant here, where the // -free potentials must be substantially more negative than the off potential of the protected object. If t/ ff is found to be more positive than U, this does not confirm or conclusively indicate insufficient... [Pg.311]

In rooms where energy is introduced primarily by supply air jets, air distribution methods are referred to as mixing type. With a perfect mixing-type air distribution, airflow pattern and air velocity at any point in the room are... [Pg.434]

Current mixing-type air distribution methods typically consider ventilation of the occupied zone with jets intercepting its upper boundary (e.g.. Fig. 7.6l2, c). Also, the occupied zone can be ventilated by the reverse flow produced as the supply jet degrades above the occupied zone level (Fig. 7.6h]. Mixing-type air distribution methods include air supply with jets projected vertically downward, inclined jets, jets directed vertically upward, and horizontal jets along room surfaces. [Pg.435]

One of the unidirectional flow system modifications is air supply through diffusers located above the occupietl zone. The supply air temperature is lower than the desired room air temperature in the occupied zone, and air velocity is lower compared to a mixing-type air supply, bur higher than for a thennal displacement ventilation. Polluted air of the occupied zone is suppressed by an tiverlying air cushion that displaces the contaminated air toward floor-level exhausts (Fig. ". 12). [Pg.441]

Poly(L-malic acid) denotes a family of polyesters derived from L-malic acid as the building unit. By chemical synthesis, three kinds of poly(L-malic acid) have been obtained, depending on the molecular position of the ester bond the a-type(I) [1], the j8-type(II) [2], and the a,j8-mixed-type(III) [3). [Pg.93]

Table 1 Summary of the calculated properties of the various dislocations in NiAl. Dislocations are grouped together for different glide planes. The dislocation character, edge (E), screw (S) or mixed type (M) is indicated together with Burgers vector and line direction. The Peierls stresses for the (111) dislocations on the 211 plane correspond to the asymmetry in twinning and antitwinning sense respectively. The majority of larger industrial burners, including furnace and boiler applications, are of the forced-draft type. These employ a combustion air fan to provide all the air needed for complete combustion. The burners are usually sealed into the combustion chamber so that there is no access to secondary air from the atmosphere as with natural-draft burners. Forced-draft burners may be of the premix type, where air and gas are mixed prior to the burner, or, more commonly, of the nozzle mix type, where the mixing takes place within the burner. [Pg.263]

The total consumption type of burner consists of three concentric tubes as shown in Fig. 21.5. The sample solution is carried by a fine capillary tube A directly into the flame. The fuel gas and the oxidant gas are carried along separate tubes so that they only mix at the tip of the burner. Since all the liquid sample which is aspirated by the capillary tube reaches the flame, it would appear that this type of burner should be more efficient that the pre-mix type of burner. However, the total consumption burner gives a flame of relatively short path length, and hence such burners are predominantly used for flame emission studies. This type of burner has the advantages that (1) it is simple to manufacture, (2) it allows a totally representative sample to reach the flame, and (3) it is free from explosion hazards arising from unbumt gas mixtures. Its disadvantages are that (1) the aspiration rate varies with different solvents, and (2) there is a tendency for incrustations to form at the tip of the burner which can lead to variations in the signal recorded. [Pg.786]

Only 5-15 per cent of the nebulised sample reaches the flame (in the case of the pre-mix type of burner) and it is then further diluted by the fuel and oxidant gases so that the concentration of the test material in the flame may be extremely minute. [Pg.787]

This subject effects designers since many products have the requirement by regulations or otherwise to use recycled plastics. Different methods are used to recycle materials to provide plastics with a continuing life. Method used is influenced by factors such as costs, quantity involved, weight involved, size and shape, complexity of mixed types of plastics, extended of contamination such as metallic particles, continued availability of material, etc. (Recognize that they can also be used as energy sources through incineration that can be combined with production of electricity and/or hot water for example). [Pg.372]

The PL-catechin conjugate showed greatly amplified concentration-dependent inhibition activity against bacterial collagenase (ChC) on the basis of the catechin unit, which is considered to be due to effective multivalent interaction between ChC and the catechin unit in the conjugate. The kinetic study suggests that this conjugate is a mixed-type inhibitor for ChC. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme which catalyzes hydrolysis of hyaluronic acid and is often involved in a number... [Pg.242]

Stem juice of Dieffenbachia maculata contains an inhibitor of fungal polygalacturonase. The inhibitor is non dializable and heat stable. The double reciprocal plot indicates that the inhibitor causes a mixed type of inhibition. The paper also describes the distribution of the inhibitor in different varieties of Dieffenbachia, and some of its properties. [Pg.799]

Effect of substrate concentration on PG inhibitor Polygalacturonase activity was measured, with or without inhibitor, at different concentrations of the substrate in the reaction mixture to understand the mode of inhibition of polygalacturonase by D. maculata stem inhibitor. The data presented in Fig. 1 indicate that the nature of inhibition is mixed-type. The inhibitor affects both Km as well as Vmax of polygalacturonase. [Pg.803]

In some cases, one needs to combine variables of mixed types (binary, ordinal or continuous). The usual way to do this is to eliminate the effect of varying ranges by scaling. All variables are transformed, so that they take values from 0 to 1 using range scaling for the continuous variables or the procedure for scaling described... [Pg.67]

There are four major histologic types of lung cancer that are divided into two classes based on response to treatment and prognosis small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, it is important to note that certain other rare malignancies can be seen as well as mixed-type carcinomas. The four major types of lung cancer are outlined in Table 87-1. [Pg.1325]

Iron-deficiency anaemia results from a discrepancy between iron availability and the amount required for production of red blood cells. The causes of acquired iron deficiency in so-called underdeveloped and developed countries must be differentiated. In underdeveloped countries, the main causes of iron deficiency are (a) the poor availability of iron in the diet due to low haem and high fibre and phytate content (D Souza et ah, 1987), and (b) chronic blood loss due to hookworm, schistosomiasis and malaria (Stoltzfus et ah, 1997 Olsen et ah, 1998 Dreyfuss et ah, 2000). Inflammation and vitamin A deficiency often interfere with the above causes of iron deficiency, causing a mixed type of anaemia. In underdeveloped countries diet improvement, iron fortification of natural foods and eradication of parasites will have a much higher impact than will refinement of diagnostic procedures and therapy of iron-deficiency anaemia. [Pg.259]
