Quality control tests or improvement of existing processes. Raw materials from various sources can be used in the manufacture of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. The raw materials can contain different impurities at various concentrations. Therefore, before the raw material is purchased and used in a full-scale batch its quality should be tested in a small-scale reactor. Existing full-scale procedures are subject to continuous modifications for troubleshooting and for improving process performance. Laboratory reactors used for tests of these two kinds are usually down-scaled reactors or reactors being a part of the full scale-reactor. [Pg.293]

Salesmen will frequently leave technical information or arrange to have it sent. Company policies vary widely. Some distribute information widely, both by mail and by sales contacts. Others prefer to have all their literature distributed by their representatives, on the premise that they can get a better idea of the needs or problems of the customer. The salesman or technical representative will determine what literature should be furnished. In some instances this policy of direct contact is part of an attempt to control the use of the product. Some companies are so anxious to protect certain customers that they are extremely reluctant to distribute technical information to others. The nuclear method is developed for rapid determination of the binder content of uncompacted mixtures (test method A) and laboratory-compacted specimens (test method B). Medicated Dandruff Shampoos. Dandmff is a scalp condition characterized by the production of excessive cellular material (18). These additives include antimicrobial additives, eg, quaternary ammonium salts keratolytic agents, eg, saUcychc acid and sulfur heavy metals, eg, cadmium sulfide coal tar resorcinol and many others. More recent (ca 1993) systems use selenium sulfide [7488-56-4] or zinc pyrithione [13463-41 -7] as active antidandmff shampoo additives. Both of these additives are classified as dmgs, but can be found in over-the-counter products. Moisture content is another common and controllable flow factor. Most materials can safely absorb moisture up to a certain point further addition of moisture can cause significant flow problems. Specifications can control the amount of moisture content present in purchased raw materials. Moisture content can be lowered in the plant by including a drying operation in the process line. An effective maintenance system depends upon it being adequately resourced. Maintenance resources include people with appropriate skills, replacement parts and materials, access to support from OEMs when needed, and the funds to purchase this material.
