Shampoos composition

Medicated Dandruff Shampoos. Dandmff is a scalp condition characterized by the production of excessive cellular material (18). A number of shampoos have been marketed which are designed to control and alleviate this condition, and many additives have been included in shampoo compositions to classify them as treatment products for dandmff. These additives include antimicrobial additives, eg, quaternary ammonium salts keratolytic agents, eg, saUcychc acid and sulfur heavy metals, eg, cadmium sulfide coal tar resorcinol and many others. More recent (ca 1993) systems use selenium sulfide [7488-56-4] or zinc pyrithione [13463-41 -7] as active antidandmff shampoo additives. Both of these additives are classified as dmgs, but can be found in over-the-counter products. A stronger version, incorporating the use of higher levels of selenium sulfide in a shampoo, is available but requires a prescription for purchase. [Pg.451]

Minor and potential new uses include flue-gas desulfurization (44,45), silver-cleaning formulations (46), thermal-energy storage (47), cyanide antidote (48), cement additive (49), aluminum-etching solutions (50), removal of nitrogen dioxide from flue gas (51), concrete-set accelerator (52), stabilizer for acrylamide polymers (53), extreme pressure additives for lubricants (54), multiple-use heating pads (55), in soap and shampoo compositions (56), and as a flame retardant in polycarbonate compositions (57). Moreover, precious metals can be recovered from difficult ores using thiosulfates (58). Use of thiosulfates avoids the environmentally hazardous cyanides. [Pg.30]

Shampoo compositions containing AOS, a sulfosuccinic acid ester, a zwit-terionic and an nonionic surfactant have been described by Noguera et al. [76]. Such compositions have good cleaning and foaming power and are useful for dishwashing and laundry cleaning purposes. [Pg.424]

Shampoo compositions generally comprise one or more anionic cleansing surfactants, which are cosmetically acceptable and suitable for topical application to hair. Anionic surfactants (negatively charged molecules) provide a lot of lather and detergency in the shampoo. The most commonly used anionic surfactants are sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), and ammonium lauryl ether sulfate (ALES), and sodium lauryl sulfate is also occasionally used. [Pg.154]

The major applications of this class of surfactants are shampoos and body washes, and they are often found in conditioning shampoos due to their compatibility with quaternary compounds. The shampoo compositions mostly include from 1 to —8% by weight of amphoterics to help impart aesthetic, physical, or cleansing properties to the composition. Amphoterics also find broad applications in hard surface cleaner formulations and homecare applications, due to their excellent detergency and pH stability. [Pg.157]

The condensate of a hydrolyzed collagen protein can be used as a hair growth stimulant [32]. Masato and others [33] patented a shampoo composition containing a quaternary ammonium derivative of a peptide derived from animal protein and an amino acid type of anionic surfactant, and claimed that this composition has an excellent conditioning effect on hair and results in... [Pg.238]
