We therefore chose to examine the performance of chemical companies in relation to some easily measurable dimensions of their corporate activity - such as product portfolio, scale, geography, market position, and product focus. By classifying companies this way, we were able to test a number of hypotheses about what drives the creation of value, measured by total return to shareholders (TRS), market-to-book value, and pre-tax return on invested capital (ROIC). After that date, recourse had to be taken to commercial publishers, such as the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Physics. The costs of the publications then increased to a point at which many college and university libraries - not to mention individual scientists - could no longer afford to purchase them. Thus, the market to support new large data volumes dried up, - it appears that the period of printed reference data books has essentially passed. 

The arrangement of the handbook follows a logical pattern a general introduction, followed by technical descriptions of equipment features and the industrial uses of the decanter. Then comes the theory of the decanter s design, and detailed descriptions of operational and test procedures. The book finishes with some marketing data, and descriptions of the equipment ranges of the main manufacturers. 

The determination and analysis of sensory properties plays an important role in the development of new consumer products. Particularly in the food industry sensory analysis has become an indispensable tool in research, development, marketing and quality control. The discipline of sensory analysis covers a wide spectrum of subjects physiology of sensory perception, psychology of human behaviour, flavour chemistry, physics of emulsion break-up and flavour release, testing methodology, consumer research, statistical data analysis. Not all of these aspects are of direct interest for the chemometrician. In this chapter we will cover a few topics in the analysis of sensory data. General introductory books are e.g. Refs. [1-3]. 

CSline. CSline [84] provides information on well-designed and well-executed clinical trials of drugs currently under study or in use in humans. This information includes study objectives, design, population, intervention groups, withdrawals, adverse reactions, endpoints and results, conclusions, and references. The CSline database covers more than 500 drugs currently on the market or in development. Pharmacological data from more than 2000 journal articles, congresses, and books are added each year. The product is commercially available on CD-ROM from Prous Science and is updated every 2 months.

Chemical process data inherently contain some degree of error, and this error may be random or systematic. Thus, the application of data reconciliation techniques allows optimal adjustment of measurement values to satisfy material and energy constraints. It also makes possible the estimation of unmeasured variables. It should be emphasized that, in today s highly competitive world market, resolving even small errors can lead to significant improvements in plant performance and economy. This book attempts to provide a comprehensive statement, analysis, and discussion of the main issues that emerge in the treatment and reconciliation of plant data. 

We are pleased to present here the English version of our book, which is an update of the German edition of 1987, supplemented by all appropriate and newly published data. Also included are those commercial organic pigments which have recently been introduced to the market. 

The focus of this book is on methods and processes designed to predict drug-like properties, exposure and safety during hit and lead discovery. We do not intend to cover specific cultural considerations and marketing aspects [3]. What we will highlight is the need of a risk aware environment for drug discovery, where data-based integrated risk assessment is part of daily life of the team and drives the projects towards molecules with features fit for the description of an efficacious and safe medicine. 

The authors would like to point out particularly that the present book can only provide a selection of the many commercially available fragrance and flavor materials. Also not included are compounds with exclusive uses that are not commonly/generally available ( captives ) as well as substances that are too new to be judged as to whether they will And a successful place in the market. Analytical data on natural raw materials that can be obtained by means of new analytical techniques are not explicitly mentioned if the analytical techniques have not yet reached international standardization. This reference book is designed to be a general source for researchers. It is especially intended to assist with market research, strategic planning, employment searches, contact or prospect list creation (be sure to see the export capabilities of the accompanying CD-ROM that is available to book and eBook buyers) and financial research, and as a data resource for executives and students of all types. 

One of die difficulties is to decide what software to employ in order to analyse the data. This book is not restrictive and you can use any approach you like. Some readers like to program their own mediods, for example in C or Visual Basic. Others may like to use a statistical packages such as SAS or SPSS. Readers can obtain the latest and more detailed data and information from suppliers and/or software programs. The guides presented in this book only provide a means to compare the general performances of different plastics. Since new developments in plastic materials are always on the horizon it is important to keep up to date. It is important to ensure that the fabricating process to be used to produce a product provides the properties desired (Chapter 3). Much of the market success or failure of a plastic product can be attributed to the initial choices of material, process, and their cost. 

The last discussion of the job market for computational chemists was a brief one that DBB wrote for Volume 12 of this book series. In the present chapter, the history of the job market is reviewed and brought up to date. We discuss factors that have affected the job market either positively or negatively and look at where recent growth has occurred. We ascertain which skills are currently in greatest demand.
