Nevertheless, during the last 25 to 30 years the genuine benefits of using chelant-based programs have become more widely appreciated, and a considerable amount of technical information has also unfortunately been disseminated concerning the potential risks for severe chelant corrosion. The position of this author is that much of this risk awareness information has been exaggerated and furthermore that some of the advice is suspect. 

The focus of this book is on methods and processes designed to predict drug-like properties, exposure and safety during hit and lead discovery. We do not intend to cover specific cultural considerations and marketing aspects [3]. What we will highlight is the need of a risk aware environment for drug discovery, where data-based integrated risk assessment is part of daily life of the team and drives the projects towards molecules with features fit for the description of an efficacious and safe medicine. 

The decline in methamphetamine consumption was even more pronounced among high school students in the USA, and fell by more than 37 per cent over the 2002-2006 period, or by 60 per cent between 1999 and 2006. While lack of accidents could reflect a strong safety control structure, it may also simply reflect delays between the relaxation of the controls and negative consequences. High levels of visibility of the state of safety (i.e., risk awareness) exist at all levels of the safety control structure through appropriate and effective feedback.

Providing the models are constructed with these quahties in mind, they form an improved foundation for communicating and discussing risk compared to actuary models. The ability to communicate risk contributes to creating risk awareness within all layers of a firm, from operational staff to upper management. 

The expected benefits of the suggested approach to quality assuring operational risk BN models are organizational buy-in and increased credibUity in model results. The latter, through direct involvement in the process of model construction firmly rooting the model in specific work processes. In addition the discussion of causal interactions also creates risk awareness within the organization as the involved experts learn how the process for which they are responsihle can fail and incur losses. 

Consequently, it is plausible to argue that Risk Awareness (CSFl) could have been triggered earlier (possibly leading to adequate action), if redundancy (3.2, in CSF3 Support) had been sufficiently accounted for. 

More generally, the lack of Risk Awareness and Support in these cases emphasizes the importance of paying attention to links between organizational level features and operational/individual level action/performance. The CSFs as operationalized and examined here appear promising as a way to systematically look into d3mamics of this character. 

The purpose would be to become aware of how Risk Awareness, Response Capacity, and Support (i.e. the three CSFs) are linked and dependent upon each other in their contribution for successful recovery of incidents.

Since the questionnaire was still in a formative stage of development and factor analysis work had focussed only on the general section, it was not possible to determine a final model from the factor analyses but eight safety culture elements were proposed to refiect the results of the factor analyses and the themes derived from the literatme and interviews. The eight elements were Commitment, Involvement, Reporting and Learning, Teamwork, Communication, Risk Awareness, Trust and Responsibility. The first five of these elements had strong support from the factor analyses, while the last three had support from the literature and seemed to fit items from the occupation-specific sections of the questionnaire. 

Train staff in effective teamwork, decision making, risk awareness, and error management as well as technical aspects of the job.
