Strategic planning

Plan strategically. The entire integrated development program should be planned early, to identify when each clinical phase will require the supportive preclinical information. Critical decision points must be identified and these decisions made in a timely fashion. A strategy must be planned to address potential issues, such as lack of a relevant species or changes to the product or manner of use.

As well as short-term, i.e. year-by-year plans, a successful company needs to have strategic plans covering, say, the next five years. The day-to-day hassle of running the company makes it very difficult to produce strategic plans and, even more, to monitor the progress of the company towards their acMeve-ment Nevertheless, the ability to plan strategically and to achieve strategic objectives is the hallmark of well run, successful companies. 

This raises the question what quantity of which biomass is to be harvested with what equipment and at what cost for which consumer(s) Thus, the focus of cost optimization shifts to strategic and operative planning. Strategic planning must include an early, integrated analysis of the site of production and the biomass consumers. Identifying the location and plant cover of lands, the infrastructure, distances to consumers and their requirements, and the time and scope of actions is essential.
