Plasticizers liquid

Film generated by depositing a layer of liquid plastic onto a surface and stabilizing by evaporating the solvent, by fusing after deposition or by cooling. Cast films are generated from solutions or dispersions. [Pg.128]

This is a method for making hollow articles using liquid plastics, particularly PVC plastisols. A shell-like mould is heated to a pre-determined temperature (typically 130°C for plastisols) and the liquid is then poured into the mould to completely fill it. A period of time is allowed to elapse until the required thickness of plastic gels. The excess liquid is then poured out and the plastic skin remaining in the mould is cured in an oven. The moulding is then taken from the mould. [Pg.323]

The 8 values of both PVC and TPU are available. The selection of TPU should also be based on the application itself. For example, in the case of modifying PVC, if TPU is used as the substituent of liquid plasticizer, then it must have a good compatibility with PVC in order to make a homogeneouslike system. If TPU is just used to improve the toughness of PVC, then the amount of TPU in the blends is usually less than 15 parts (PVC as 100 parts), therefore, partial compatibility is enough. [Pg.139]

The term plastisol is used to describe a vinyl dispersion that contains no volatile thin-ners or diluents. Plastisols often contain stabilizers, fillers, and pigments, along with the essential dispersion plastics and the liquid plasticizer. All ingredients exhibit very low volatility under processing and use conditions. The flexibility of some plastics can be improved by the addition of small molecules called plasticizers. Plastic fluids are Newtonian or pseudoplastic liquids that exhibit a yield value (Fig. 3a and b, curves C). At rest they behave like a solid due to their interparticle association. The external force has to overcome these attractive forces between the particles and disrupt the structure. Beyond this point, the material changes its behavior from that of a solid to that of a liquid. The viscosity can then either be a constant (ideal Bingham liquid) or a function of the shear rate. In the latter case, the viscosity can initially decrease and then become a constant (real Bingham liquid) or continuously decrease, as in the case of a pseudoplastic liquid (Casson liquid). To control compatibility and other properties of butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymers with PVC, there is an optimum acrylonitrile content of 37%. For practical handling, the nitrile rubber is treated on rolls at normal temperatures, and afterwards the mixture is rolled with PVC at elevated temperatures. Among the polyesters that are used for PVC, the copolymers of butadiene with ethyl fumarates and ethyl acrylates deserve mention. They have been produced by Badische Anilin-und Sodafabrik (BASF) under the commercial name Palamoll. Palamoll I consists of 75% diethyl fumarate and 25% butadiene Palamoll II contains equal parts of butadiene and ethyl acrylate. In combination with the same amount of liquid plasticizers (such as DOP), films with cold resistance down to — 60°C. can be produced. These products are especially important for cable insulation because of their good dielectric properties. The Palamoll products are produced by emulsion polymerization and can be directly combined with emulsions of PVC. [Pg.99]

Pure polyvinyl chloride alone It a rigid plastic of high volume resistivity. Addition of monomeric liquid plasticizer makes It flexible but lowers volume resistivity seriously. This loss of volume resistivity was not prevented by pre-purification of commercial resin and plasticizer, though It could be worsened by addition of Ionic soluble Impurities.
