Other metals are available which have very specific uses. Their cost is very high but their use is often justified in certain processes such as fine chemical manufacture. They are generally used as thin cladding or loose lining supported by steel or stainless steel. 

The extent to which the cell line supports appropriate expression of the cDNA. The level of expression achieved is determined by interactions of the vector/ expressed protein with the cell. These interactions include the strength of the promoter (weaker promoters can be compensated for by using a vector which is present at high copy number), the adequacy of the selective agent (not all agents are toxic to all cells), the stability of the expressed protein (some proteins may be rapidly degraded in some cells), and whether the expressed protein exerts any deleterious effects on the viability of host cells (some efflux transporters could deplete the cell of essential components). Finally, transporters must be expressed in a polarized manner in the host cell (i.e., preferentially on either the basolateral or apical side of the cell). 

What can be expected from the future The cultivation of isolated hematopoietic cells will benefit from the identification of new cytokines, making the use of stromal-conditioned medium unnecessary. The recent development of proteomics techniques will expediate this process. The prospects of the co-cultivation will depend on the development of human stromal cell lines supporting the expansion of early progenitor cells, and the membrane approach has to prove its potential on a clinical scale.

In Fig. 23 the relationship between B/kg and XA/D are shown for the polypeptide liquid crystals in various solvents. Following Eq. (25), the compensation temperature is determined by the ratio (fi/kg)/(lA/D) at a constant polymer concentration. The solid and broken lines shown in Fig. 23 correspond to the theoretical values calculated for Tjj = 25 °C and 80 °C, respectively. The solvents located above and below the solid line support the right-handed and left-handed cholesteric liquid crystals, at 25 °C, respectively. The situation is the same for the broken line at 80 °C. The solvents located between the two straight lines invert the cholesteric sense from right-handed to left-handed in the range of measurements.

The air-lift circulator is shown in Fig. 11.3. There are 152 j-in-diameter holes distributed over a 6-in-diameter face plate of the diffuser cone. The vertical air supply line supports an 18-in-diameter outer pipe. Figure 11.3 demonstrates how this device works. There are 22 air-lift circulators, to provide for vertical mixing of the waste solution.

Hang or post-up one or two lines arranged on the other elevation.

Normal probability paper has a non-linear scale for the percentage cumulative frequency axis, which will convert this S-shaped curve into a straight line.
