Lead-specific

The protonation leads specifically to the trans-decalin system, though reduction could apparently give rise to two stereoisomeric products. The guiding principle appears to be that protonation of the intermediate allylic anion 12 takes place axially, orthogonal to the plane of the double bond, and to the most stable conformation of the carbanion which allows the best sp3-orbital overlap on the /Tcarbon with the -orbital system of the double bond. [Pg.59]

Estes el al. [722] described a method for the measurement of triethyl- and trimethyllead chloride in potable water, using fused silica capillary column gas chromatography with microwave excited helium plasma lead specific detection. Element specific detection verified the elution of lead species, a definite advantage to the packed column method. The method involved the initial extraction of trialkyllead ions from water into benzene, which was then vacuum reduced to further concentrate the compounds. Direct injection of the vacuum concentrated solutions into the gas chromatography-microwave excited helium plasma system gave delectability of triethyllead chloride at the 30mg L 1 level... [Pg.359]

Cyclic "onium intermediates of the type (2) or (3) are believed to survive only until attacked by an anion or nucleophilic solvent molecule. The reaction leads specifically to the trans product. This is a consequence of the extra stability... [Pg.295]

Cytisine (VIII) was the starting point in a synthesis of angustifoline. Tetrahydrocytisine (XLI) was converted to the A -chloro derivative (XLII) with hypochlorite. The elimination of hydrogen chloride from the latter leads specifically to the Schiff hase (XLIII) which is stereospecifically alkylated with allyl magnesium chloride. The approach of the reagent from the under side of the molecule is sterically very improbable (52). [Pg.189]

A new synthetic strategy which leads specifically to ortho-functionalization of aromatic amines was based on the initial formation of the intermediate aminosulfonium ions 205, which were converted into ylides 206 in the presence of bases291 (equation 79). The ylides 206 underwent [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement to the orf/zo-substituted anilines 207. [Pg.622]

GC and HRGC combined with AAS have been used to measure lead and alkyllead compounds of gasoline, such as tetramethyl lead, in blood and urine (Andersson et al. 1984 Harman et al. 1981 Moore et al. 1976). AAS is the most common detector used to measure lead or alkyllead compounds in blood and urine since AAS is a lead-specific detector (Andersson et al. 1984 ... [Pg.122]

Recently, it has been shown that nucleophilic addition of neat dimethyl trimethylsilyl phosphite to serine-derived P-lactonc at I ()() C for 24 h leads specifically to the carboxylic trimethylsilyl ester by preferential transfer of the trimethylsilyl group. A simple aqueous workup induces hydrolysis of the silyl ester to give the N- and P-protected free carboxylic acid ready for activation and coupling. [Pg.444]

Tributyltin and tributyltin oxide are still used on boats and ships to prevent growth of barnacles. They are extremely toxic for many invertebrates in the sea, notably some snails whose sexual organs develop abnormally. In these snails the female develops a penis. In oysters and other bivalves, their shells become too thick. Tributyltin must be regarded as one of the most serious environmental pollutants, but contrary to the lower analogues, trimethyl tin and triethyltin, they are not very toxic to man and other mammals. Trimethyltin is of considerable interest for neurotoxicologists because it leads specifically to atrophy of the center for short-term memory, the hippocampus. The ethyl analogue has other serious detrimental effects on the brain. [Pg.43]

The last stage of the process is the final caustic clean, which removes any trace impurity of elements such as antimony, calcium, magnesium, and zinc that may have passed through from the previous processes. The metal is pumped from the de-bismuthizing area to the final kettles where it is held at about 500°C. Caustic soda is added and stirred into the lead for about one hour. Samples are taken at regular intervals to ensure that the product meets the required lead specifications. Once the lead is in specification, it is cast in the required shape and either sold to the market or used internally for production of calcium and antimonial alloys. [Pg.506]

It was also shown by ESR that Ti3+ can substitute for Al3+ in ZSM-5 sample (26) leading specific acidic properties. In the case of Ga the appearance of an hydroxyl group at 3670cm l is a good criterion for a successful substitution of Ga3+ for Si + (17). This sample was observed to exhibit interesting catalytic properties for propane and butane aromatization in the famous Cyclar process particularly if you have both substituted Ga + (acidic feature) and Ga203 tiny particles (dehydrogenating feature). [Pg.120]

Substitution of both L (pyridine or piperidine) or CO by occurs on irradiating [M(CO)5L] (M = Cr, Mo, or W) at 366 or 313 nm. The relative quantum yields of these two reactions are very dependent upon M, amine substitution having the higher quantum yield for both Mo and W but both reactions having approximately the same quantum yield for Cr. Substitution of CO leads specifically to cis-(M(CO)4( CO)L]. Assuming that [Cr(CO)4L] and [Cr(CO)s], have similar rates of CO capture, the route via the C intermediate is only possible if the rate constant for Civ to Ct rearrangement is greater than 3 X 1(P s (Scheme 1). Otherwise the /m/w-product would have been detected. This point could be tested by photosubstitution of the yet unavailable rra/ir-[M(CO)4( CO)L] by CO. [Pg.277]

The most recent developments in this area relate to custom-made zir-conocenes for specific applications. The stereo-electronic environment at the zirconium center can be varied in a very subtle manner and this can lead to the formation of specific polymers. Thus, a bridged metallocene in combination with MAO can lead specifically to isotactic polypropylene (Fig. 2.26) [26]. Similarly, variation in the metallocene structure can lead to specific formation of a syndiotactic polypropylene. Even a polypropylene containing alternating isotactic and syndiotactic blocks can be prepared by modifying the metallocene. [Pg.53]

Additional important lead-specific sections of the amendments are in Sec. 1417, banning lead solder, flux, and lead pipe for new residential water plumbing systems or for the repair of existing ones. The fact that the reaction between lead salts and dithizone takes place despite the presence of considerable amounts of potassium cyanide renders the test for lead specific among the heavy metals which are masked by excess of alkadi cyanide. P-Lactones.— The anion (51) is stable at -78 X and only slowly undergoes -elimination at ambient temperatures, presumably due to the orthogonal arrangement of the orbitals involved. Condensations with electrophiles (E ) lead specifically to lactones (52) in high yield. [Pg.109]

The mechanism of dithionite reduction is not fully established. Yellow intermediates formed in these reductions have been represented as products of nucleophilic attack at C(4), e.g. structure (133). In contrast, a crystalline intermediate isolated in one instance has been formulated as arising from nucleophilic attack at C(2) (p. 249). The site of this attack is dependent upon substituents already present, and it may be that more than one mechanism can operate. The intermediate represented as (133) has also been formulated as a charge transfer complex between the pyridinium nucleus and 820 , a formulation which is held alone to lead specifically to 1,4-dibydro-products " (pp. 273-281). [Pg.261]
