High tensile strength

Polymerisation of a diol with a dicarboxybe acid is exemplified by the production of a polyester from ethylene glycol and terephthabc acid either by direct esterification or by a catalysed ester-interchange reaction. The resulting polyester (Terylene) is used for the manufacture of fibres and fabrics, and has high tensile strength and resibency its structure is probably ... [Pg.1019]

The cured polymers are hard, clear, and glassy thermoplastic resins with high tensile strengths. The polymers, because of their highly polar stmcture, exhibit excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrate combinations. They tend to be somewhat britde and have only low to moderate impact and peel strengths. The addition of fillers such as poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) reduces the brittleness somewhat. Newer formulations are now available that contain dissolved elastomeric materials of various types. These mbber-modifted products have been found to offer adhesive bonds of considerably improved toughness (3,4). [Pg.178]

Film. By far the largest appHcation for LLDPE resins (over 60% in the United States) is film. Because LLDPE film has high tensile strength and puncture resistance, it is able to compete with HDPE film for many uses. The toughness and low temperature properties of LLDPE film also exceed those of conventional LDPE. Furthermore, because LLDPE resins exhibit relatively low strain hardening in the molten state and lower extensional viscosity, it can be produced at high rates with Httle risk of bubble breaks. [Pg.404]

Film. Blown film manufactured from PB has a high tensile strength and exhibits good resistance to tear, impact, and puncture (47). Such film also exhibits hard-elastic behavior that is, it can recover its original length even after extensive stretching. Some properties of PB film are given in Table 5. [Pg.432]

Polymers from the meta isomer are useful for their heat and flame resistance polymers from the para isomer are noted for high tensile strength and high modulus. [Pg.255]

Epoxidized natural mbber is stiU a strain crystallising mbber and therefore retains the high tensile strength of natural mbber. However, as can be seen from Table 5, ia other respects they have very Httie ia common. The epoxidation renders a much higher dampiag mbber, a much-improved resistance to oil swelling (iasofar as a 50 mol % modified natural mbber has similar oil resistance to a 34% nitrile mbber), and much-reduced air permeabiUty. This latest form of modified natural mbber therefore widens the appHcations base of the natural material and enables it to seek markets hitherto the sole province of some specialty synthetic mbbers. [Pg.271]

Drums. Typical selection for the number of dmms used in the various appHcations is two to four for cobbers, one or two for roughers, and two or three for finishers. The inner dmm sheU, usually 3 mm thick, is specified Series 302 or 304 stainless steel. Dmm heads are usually of high tensile strength aluminum alloy or brass. Recessed head bolt constmction having an effective seal is specified. [Pg.425]

The excellent chemical resistance and physical properties of PVA resins have resulted in broad industrial use. The polymer is an excellent adhesive and possesses solvent-, oil-, and grease-resistant properties matched by few other polymers. Poly(vinyl alcohol) films exhibit high tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and oxygen barrier properties which, under dry conditions, are superior to those of any other known polymer. The polymer s low surface tension provides for excellent emulsification and protective coUoid properties. [Pg.475]

These fibrous minerals share several properties which qualify them as asbestiform fibers (/) they are found in large clusters which can be easily separated from the host matrix or cleaved into thinner fibers (1) (2) the fibers exhibit high tensile strengths (1) (J) they show high length diameter ratios, from a minimum of 20 up to >1000 (1) (4) they are sufficiendy dexible to be spun and (5) macroscopicaHy, they resemble organic fibers such as cellulose (2). [Pg.344]

Acetate propionate esters are nontoxic, exhibit excellent clarity and high tensile strength, and can be formulated into hot-melt dip coatings for food (168). Alternatively, they may be dissolved in volatile solvents and appHed to foods in the form of a lacquer coating (169). [Pg.261]

Tin is usually not regarded as an impurity except in high tensile strength manganese—bron2e where it is limited to 0.2% maximum. Tin lowers both the tensile strength and the ductihty of the alloy. [Pg.247]

Accelerators may be added to improve the physical properties of the polymer when needed. Where high modulus or low oil swell is required, thiocarbanihde is the preferred accelerator, with a cure time of 60 min at 100°C. Tetraethyl thiuram disulfide and sodium dibutyl dithiocarbamate are preferred for high tensile strength and cured at 121°C. [Pg.548]
