Laboratory staffing

In January 1927, the Marks were lured by Kurt Meyer, director of research for I. G. Farben, to be both a professor and head of a laboratory staffed by 20 scientists. He became a highly popular lecturer throughout Europe. While this popularity delighted Farben directors, his research efforts had not filled the company s tills. Within Mark s mind were pictures of branched, elongated, "zig-zagged", interlocked chairs and the persistent taunting regarding property-structure relationships.

Hikal thus will join the ranks of integrated contract research/ manufacturing companies.

Operating costs are best done in-house, because company personnel are familiar with corporate philosophies of staffing, maintenance, control laboratory operations. administrative requirements, and many other support aspects of running the business. While much care has to be used in performing competitive protein binding assays, most well-equipped and staffed clinical laboratories should have no serious problem in undertaking such assays. DCLS is the analytical regulatory laboratory for the State of Virginia, and is staffed by nearly 350 employees analyzing over a million samples a year. In many countries the freedom of the individual investigators to decide the details of their research programme is well protected. Control of day-by-day activities is inappropriate. Nevertheless, in cases such as the above, a preferable procedure would be for two or three selected laboratories to attempt confirmation of the claim. They would then communicate the results to others. Again this massive duplication may be regarded as a corollary of the large number of well-staffed and well-supported research laboratories around the globe.
