Hopper Trucks These trucks are used to transport by highway a wide variety of materials. Vehicle types range from the open-dumping kind to the closed type. Most common is the type that unloads by pressure differential into its own pneumatic-conveying system, which is temporarily connected to a storage silo. On this type of truck, the unloading of 18,100 kg (40,000 lb) of produces takes about 1 h, sometimes less. [Pg.1982]

Water with solids in suspension Fine abrasives Single suction with end clearance wearing fits. If all particles pass through mesh screen, rubber lined pumps are available which will give many times the life of metal pumps, providing no chemical action or excessive temperature will deteriorate the rubber. Special rubber compounds can be applied to improve resistance to certain chemicals. Open, which allows better application of the rubber, except in larger sizes. Also made in closed type. [Pg.179]

Semi-open formulas are used when the problem exists at only one limit. At the closed end of the integration, the weights from the standard closed-type formulas are used and at the open end, the weights from open formulas are used. (Weights for closed and open formulas of various orders of error may be found in standard numerical methods texts.) Given a closed extended trapezoidal rule of one order higher than the preceding formula, i.e.. [Pg.81]

A combination of open- and closed-type formulas is referred to as the predictor-corrector method. First the open equation (the predictor) is used to estimate a value for y,, this value is then inserted into the right side of the corrector equation (the closed formula) and iterated to improve the accuracy of y. The predictor-corrector sets may be the low-order modified (open) and improved (closed) Euler equations, the Adams open and closed formulas, or the Milne method, which gives the following system... [Pg.87]

The impeller (Figure 8.20) consists of a series of curved vanes so shaped that the flow within the pump is as smooth as possible. The greater the number of vanes on the impeller, the greater is the control over the direction of motion of the liquid and hence the smaller are the losses due to turbulence and circulation between the vanes. In the open impeller, the vanes are fixed to a central hub, whereas in the closed type the vanes are held between... [Pg.330]

For systems that do not offer online HIAR, these procedures must be performed manually or off-line prior to loading slides on the instrument. Online HIAR methods are usually found as part of the closed-type automated staining systems, and are therefore less flexible in terms of what a technician can do to change the HIAR portion of a staining protocol to help optimize staining for particularly difficult antibodies. In spite of this, the ability to perform online HIAR is advantageous for many antibodies because it is extremely consistent and frees up technician time to complete other laboratory tasks. [Pg.158]

Slide Capacity and Clinical Volume A careful evaluation of clinical work-flow should be done in order to determine what instrument best meets the needs of the laboratory. Slide capacity, clinical volume, turnaround time, staffing, and future needs are examples of parameters that should be considered. The number of antibodies on the laboratory s menu should also be considered. A small lab with a limited number of antibodies can benefit from the closed type system, while larger labs with a larger antibody menu may find the open system more beneficial. [Pg.161]

Meade (1966) shows that claystones have a porosity decreasing to 0% at 1 Km depths and sandstones, 20% porosity at the same depth. Manheim (1970) shows that ionic diffusion rates in sediments are 1/2 to 1/20 that of free solutions when the sediments have porosities between 100 - 20%. It is evident that the burial of sediments creates a very different physical environment than that of sedimentation. As a result of reduced ionic mobility in the solutions, a different set of silicate-solution equilibria will most certainly come into effect with the onset of burial. The activity of ions in solution will become more dependent upon the chemistry of the silicates as porosity decreases and the system will change from one of perfectly mobile components in the open sea to one approaching a "closed" type where ionic activity in solution is entirely dictated by the mass of the material present in the sediment-fluid system. Although this description is probably not entirely valid even in rocks with measured zero porosity, for practical purposes, the pelitic or clayey sediments must certainly rapidly approach the situation of a closed system upon burial. [Pg.20]

BJStroking Devices. They may be subdivided into "open and "closed CAD s. In the first type (such as in catapults and removers), there is separation of piston from cylinder, accompanied by escape of proplnt gases(See illustration on p 6 of Ref 14). In the "closed" types(such as used in thrusters and ejectors), the piston does not separate from the cylinder and the gas does not escape into atmosphere, but may be bypassed to other CAD s. Function of catapult remover... [Pg.466]

The exact formulation of the inlet and outlet boundary conditions becomes important only if the dispersion number (DjuL) is large (> 0.01). Fortunately, when DjuL is small (< 0.01) and the C-curve approximates to a normal Gaussian distribution, differences in behaviour between open and closed types of boundary condition are not significant. Also, for small dispersion numbers DjuL it has been shown rather surprisingly that we do not need to have ideal pulse injection in order to obtain dispersion coefficients from C-curves. A tracer pulse of any arbitrary shape is introduced at any convenient point upstream and the concentration measured over a period of time at both inlet and outlet of a reaction vessel whose dispersion characteristics are to be determined, as in Fig. 2.18. The means 7in and fout and the variances and out for each of the C-curves are found. [Pg.94]

Further cooling yields a sharp increase of the resistivity of the studied compounds, caused by a transition towards the dielectric state. It should be noticed that the [N-CI I3-Pz](TCNQ) salt becomes dielectric at a temperature of T 120 K which is the lowest ever recorded for TCNQ ARS with close type cations. [Pg.327]

The root apex is covered with a calyptra extending proximally up to about 600 pm from the tip. The apical meristem is of the closed type, with each of the three root tissue systems, i.e. the vascular cylinder, the cortex, and the calyptra/epidermis, arising from its own independent groups of initials.16 Cellular differentiation had already started at a distance of about 600 pm from the tip in the 16 h-control while very little differentiation could be seen in roots from treated seeds. [Pg.309]

For reasons evident from the figure we call the two types of sequences respectively open and closed sequences. Since 1921 the latter type of sequences has been called chain reactions (11,12), a name which should be reserved for sequences of the closed type. Sometimes it has been used also for open sequences, but as the characteristics of the two types are very different this use may cause confusion and should be abandoned. [Pg.319]

The initial inspection shall ensure that the type of protection of the apparatus and its installation are appropriate. As a rule, initial inspections shall be detailed inspections. Periodic inspections are of the visual or close type. They shall detect all the factors effecting the deterioration of apparatus, e.g. corrosion, exposure to chemicals or solvents, accumulation of dust or dirt, water ingress, exposure to excessive ambient temperature, mechanical damage, unauthorized modifications or adjustments and inappropriate maintenance. [Pg.478]
