Chemistry Leads in Total Citations and Citations per Paper [Pg.29]

The total number of citations of chemistry articles provides a measure of the strength of a nation s contributions to chemistry, and the number of citations per paper gives information on the average impact of a nation s chemistry papers. The United States ranks first both in total citations and in [Pg.29]

Journal article citations for many of the reactions listed come from theJ Am Acad Dermatol, Arch Dermatol, Cutis, Int J Dermatol, Contact Dermatitis, Br J Dermatol, JAMA, Lancet, BMJ, Aust J Dermatol, N EnglJ Med, Ann Intern Med, and many other prominent and easily accessible journals. There are occasional allusions to the incidence of many of the listed ADRs. Percentages are obtained from these peer reviewed and published articles. [Pg.702]

Strike got the journal article for this recipe as literature citation used in the original Wacker oxidation Strike used for Method 2. In it both mercuric acetate, and to an extent, lead acetate produced ketones as described. Someone-Who-ls-Not-Strike also got a certain ketone. But maybe they were lucky or just plain wrong. Most people on Strike s site say this mercuric acetate thing... [Pg.89]

PC-Based Information Products Floppy Disk Based. We currently have ready access to a rapidly growing variety of relevant information resources. From a current awareness perspective, an excellent source of weekly information is the floppy disk-based product called Current Contents on Diskette (CCOD). Several versions are available however, the Life Sciences version is most appropriate for this review because of its coverage, on a weekly basis, of over 1200 journals describing work in the biological sciences. One will note that the product has several useful features, including very quick retrieval of article citations as well as several output options (including either hard copy or electronic storage of references as well as reprint requests). [Pg.106]

Historical introductions to chemistry courses and citations in journal articles provided ample opportunity for scientists to trace family lines to suit the discipline-building task at hand and to set up a record for later historians. Ostwald made sure to settle his name into a progeny of physical chemists in his history of electrochemistry. Later, Ingold minimized the historical role of contemporary rivals by spare citations to work well known at the time. [Pg.280]

PubMed was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The PubMed database was developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and linking to full-text journal articles at Web sites of participating publishers. Publishers that participate in PubMed supply NLM with their citations electronically prior to or at the time of publication. [Pg.8]

Two writing features are worth pointing out regarding the opening sentence of a journal article. First, the topic is usually introduced in the present tense only one passage above (P3) did not use present tense. Second, citations to the literature are quite common in the first sentence. Once again, all passages but one (P5) included at least one citation in the first sentence. [Pg.209]

References Cited. Begin References Cited on a new page (Times New Roman 12-pt font, 1.5 line spacing). There is no page limit for this section, but we encourage you to limit references to those that have most greatly influenced your work. Format your references appropriately (numerical or alphabetical), paralleling the format used for in-line citations. Include full journal article titles and all authors listed in the order in which they appear in the journal article. [Pg.380]

The largest number of citations is found in the Introduction sections of journal articles, posters, and research proposals, consistent with the purposes of the section. Introductions of both journal articles and research proposals often include 15 or more citations in opening paragraphs (often with multiple citations in a single sentence). Far fewer citations (sometimes even none) are included in poster Introductions because of space limitations and the poster s role in emphasizing new results. [Pg.546]

How many works total should you cite in your written work The answer to this question varies for each genre. Typically, posters have the fewest citations, often less than five hence, only the most essential works are cited. The number increases for journal articles and proposals and is influenced by what is judged as appropriate to cite in each genre. [Pg.546]

Consider the following passage, adapted from a journal article Introduction section. Which sentences should include citations Explain how you arrived at your decisions. [Pg.548]

Research proposals typically have the largest number of citations guidelines regarding what is appropriate to cite are less stringent for proposals than for journal articles, for several reasons ... [Pg.549]

The last required section of most written work is the References. This section goes by various names. In journal article and posters, it is often called References or Literature Cited. In proposals, it is often called References Cited. Whatever the name, its purpose is to offer more detailed information about the publications cited within the text, making it easy for readers to retrieve each cited source, if so desired. As the name implies, only the literature cited in the text should be included in the references. The format that you use for your references should parallel the format that you use with in-text citations ... [Pg.557]

As with PDB files for crystallographic models, NMR coordinate files also include headers containing citations to journal articles about the structure determination work, as wel3 as brief descriptions of specific techniques used in producing the model presented in the file. When you view PDB files in web browsers, the literature citations contain convenient live links to Medline abstracts of the listed articles. [Pg.235]

The reference citation for a journal article should include the name(s) of the author(s) the name of the journal the month, day, and year of publication volume and issue numbers and inclusive page numbers for the article. [Pg.85]

MEDLINE is a bibliographic database that contains more than 11 million references to journal articles from 4300 national and international biomedical journals, covering the period from 1966 to the present.Types of journals indexed in MEDLINE include pharmacy, allied health, nursing, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pre-clinical science, and life science journals. Each week, nearly 8000 reference citations, created by the NLM and its partners, are added to the MEDLINE database. [Pg.580]

MEDLINE Search via PubMed or via Internet Grateful Med (below) Can be searched using NLM s controlled vocabulary, MeSH, or by author name, title word, text word, journal name, phrase, alone or in combination. The result of a search is a list of citations (including authors, title, source, and often an abstract) to journal articles. [Pg.582]

TOXNET http //toxnet.nlm.nih.gov User-friendly Web site that allows searching of a cluster of bibliographic and factual databases with information on toxicology and environmental health. Includes the Hazardous Substances Databank (HSDB), with detailed information about 4500 chemicals, and TOXLINE, containing >3 million citations to journal articles and technical reports. [Pg.582]

One tutorial is dedicated to reference material how to search for information, how to properly reference the literature, identifying, and avoiding plagiarism. Students were given a journal article with citations removed, and were asked to identify places where they felt a reference was required. [Pg.157]

Most of the articles on damage analysis published in journals are not recent."" This is also true of company brochures on this topic. In the selection mentioned here, the last article is cited if it is part of a series of articles. Citations for previous articles in the series can be obtained there. [Pg.150]
