About 69% of the total 1988 U.S. consumption of isobutyraldehyde, went into the production of isobutyl alcohol and isobutyraldehyde condensation and esterification products. The other principal isobutyraldehyde derivative markets (as a percentage of total 1988 U.S. isobutyraldehyde consumption) are neopentyl glycol (15%) isobutyl acetate (6%) isobutyric acid (5%) isobutyUdene diurea (2.5%) and methyl isoamyl ketone (1.7%). [Pg.380]

Dermal Effects. Skin irritation was noted in wildlife officers at the RMA after they handled sick or dead ducks without gloves (NIOSH 1981). Although the investigators concluded that diisopropyl methylphosphonate contributed to the local effects, a number of other compounds were present. Analysis of the pond water indicated the presence of a number of organic and inorganic contaminants, including diisopropyl methylphosphonate (11.3 ppm) aldrin (0.368 ppm) dieldrin (0.0744 ppm) dicyclo-pentadiene, bicycloheptadiene, diethyl benzene, dimethyl disulfide, methyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone, toluene, and sodium (49,500 ppm) chloride (52,000 ppm) arsenic (1,470 ppm) potassium (180 ppm) fluoride (63 ppm) copper (2.4 ppm) and chromium (0.27 ppm). Because of the presence of numerous compounds, it is unclear whether diisopropyl methylphosphonate was related to the irritation. [Pg.64]

An example of CO2 enhanced aqueous extraction is shown in Figure 7 for tetrabutylammonium picrate (TBAP). Three common solvents for PTC butyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and methylene chloride were used as the organic phase. [Pg.403]

The largest offtake of acetone is its conversion into solvents, used mainly in lacquers and other synthetic resin applications. These solvents include diacetone alcohol, methyl isobutyl ketone, methyl isobutyl carbinol (methyl amyl alcohol), and methyl amyl acetate. The following equations (22), in each of which the raw material is the product of the previous reaction, show a possible procedure by which these solvents may be made ... [Pg.294]

Coatings and sealants for varied industrial applications are made by dissolving compounds of low-viscosity FKM elastomers, such as VITON C-10, VITON A-35, or FLUOREL 2145, in methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, methyl isobutyl ketone, amyl acetate, or other related ketones.47 Such products have typical useful storage life of 7 days at 24°C (75°F) and cure within 2 weeks.58 The subject of coatings and sealants based on fluoroelastomers is covered in more detail in Modern Fluoropoly-mers (Scheirs, J., Ed.), Chapter 23 (Ross Jr., E. W. and Hoover, G. S.), John Wiley Sons, New York (1997). [Pg.113]

Some organic solvents, for example isobutyl methyl ketone (4-methylpen-tan-2-one) and ethyl acetate, produce particularly fine aerosol and very high transport efficiency as a consequence.8 Such solvents are therefore particularly useful for solvent extraction where very low detection limits are required. [Pg.32]

In biotechnology, the products concerned are removed from aqueous solution by extraction with methylacetate, butylacetate, isobutyl methyl ketone etc. The remaining aqueous substrate is saturated with the extraction solvents. Sometimes this causes problems with regard to environmental regulations. Table V shows that the solvents can be remored almost entirely by reverse osmosis. The concentrate consists of two phases, namely, the solvent saturated with water and the water saturated with solvent. These can be separated by means of a settler. The water phase is recirculated to the reverse osmosis. The saturated solubility in Water at room temperature is 19 OOO mg/litre for isobutyl methyl ketone, 3300 mg/litre for butyl acetate and 9 500 mg/litre for methyl acetate. As the results in table V show, the retention for isobutyl-methyl ketone increases with increasing concentration. This result is remarkable, as generally a decrease in retention is observed with increasing concentration. [Pg.284]

Extraction of micro-amounts of Ga" by a number of reagents (butyl acetate, isobutyl methyl ketone, etc.) is suppressed by the addition of macro-amounts of Sb or Sb. The extent of the suppression increases with increasing dielectric constant of the organic solvent. ... [Pg.129]
