Iowa State University research laboratories

This book is about passion. A passion for chemistry. A passion for John D. Corbett, Distinguished Professor of Science and Humanities at Iowa State University of Science and Technology and Senior Chemist at the Ames Laboratory. A passion and admiration for John s way of conducting research in solid state chemistry and for the way he passes on his vast amount of accumulated knowledge to his students, postdoctoral associates and the community as a whole. John Corbett is a truly outstanding solid state inorganic chemist, an individual of immense and different talents, who has influenced not only his discipline but, in many ways, has led the renaissance in solid state chemistry over the past several decades. [Pg.339]

Ames Laboratory (Iowa State University, USA) investigating new solid state phases based on reduced rare earth halides. Since 1993, she has held a position at the University Jaume 1 of Castello (Spain) and became Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry in 1995. During the second semester of 2005, she held a visiting professor position at the Laboratory of Chemistry, Molecular Engineering and Materials of the CNRS-Universtity of Angers (France). Her research has been focussed on the chemistry of transition metal clusters with special interest in multifunctional molecular materials and the relationship between the molecular and electronic structures of these systems with their properties. She is currently coauthor of around 80 research papers on this and related topics. [Pg.369]

Professor M. R. Maurya is currently heading the Department of Chemistry, IIT Roorkee. He has more than 26 years of teaching and research experience. He had worked in Loyola University of Chicago, USA, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, and Pune University Pune, before joining department of Chemistry at IIT Roorkee in 1996 and became full professor in 2008. His current area of research interests include structural and functional models of vanadate-dependent haloperoxidases, coordination polymers and their catalytic study, metal complexes encapsulated in zeolite cages and their catalytic study, polymer-anchored metal complexes and their catalytic study, and medicinal aspects of coordination compounds. So far, he has guided 21 doctoral and 7 Master s theses, co-authored more than 140 research papers in the international refereed journals. [Pg.35]

This research was supported by the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, Materials Sciences Division. The Ames Laboratory Is operated for the U. S. Department of Energy by Iowa State University under contract No. W-7405-Eng-82. [Pg.107]

The first of two stays of the senior author at Iowa State University was supported by a contract between Ae United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Ae National Chemical Laboratory, administered in the United States by the Carl Duisberg Society, Inc. This work was also supported by the Engineering Research Institute of Iowa State University. The authors thank Ron Niece, Cynthia Wadsworth, Nick Strickland, and Tony Grabski of the University of Wisconsin Biotechnology Center for providing confirmation of the amino acid sequence, and Brian Chait and Ron Beavis of Rockefeller University for attempting matrix-assisted laser desorption mass spectroscopy on Ac enzyme. This article is N(X Communication No. 4950. [Pg.424]

Rate Law and Mechanism of Reaction. Only about ten years ago kinetic investigations on these systems were reported. This research was done independently in the laboratories of Prof. Grinberg in Russia, Prof. Martin at Iowa State University and ours at Northwestern University. The initial studies showed that the rates of reaction such as (1) are first-order in substrate concentration but either first-order or zero-order in reagent concentration. Subsequently, more detailed studies have shown that the reaction rates obey rate law (3), where k is a first-order rate constant for... [Pg.82]

Lipoxygenase may play a role in SPI production. When we examined SPI production on a laboratory scale using triple LOX-null soybeans compared to the parental variety, we observed no differences in yield (data not shown). However, when these varieties were compared using the Iowa State University Center for Crops Utilization Research pilot plant SPI procedure (Wu et al., 2000), it became apparent that the LOX-triple null SPI precipitates were much more difficult to centrifuge. The data in Table 8.4 compares the yield differences in SPI made from triple nulls from two crop years. Moisture, protein, and lipid compositions of the soybeans were not different between years or varieties. [Pg.258]
