Indolent ulcers

It is used as astringent mouth in 0.5-2% concentration in indolent ulcer of gums. [Pg.413]

Bayberry has antipyretic, circulatory stimulant, emetic, and mild diaphoretic properties. It is used to treat diarrhea, colds, and, specifically, mucous colitis. An infusion can be used as a gargle for sore throat and as a douche for leucorrhea. Powdered root bark may be applied topically for the management of indolent ulcers. [Pg.87]

Holy thistle is believed to have bitter stomachic, antidiarrheal, antihemorrhagic, febrifuge, expectorant, antibiotic, bacteriostatic, vulnerary, and antiseptic properties. Traditionally, it has been used for anorexia, flatulent dyspepsia, bronchial catarrh, topically for gangrenous and indolent ulcers, and specifically for atonic dyspepsia and enteropathy with flatulent colic. [Pg.96]

In the treatment of chronic rheumatic trouble this medicine is given a prominent place, and it is also widely used wherever a general stimulant is needed. The powdered bark is applied directly to indolent ulcers. As an external application for rheumatism. Coffin recommends 1 ounce of the pulverised bark to 4 ounces of Olive oil, heated, the part to be well rubbed with this liniment night and morning. [Pg.76]

Unlike dendritic keratitis, indolent ulcers are typically very difficult to treat. Instillation of a prophylactic antibiotic, such as polymyxin B-bacitracin ointment two to four times a day, and a cycloplegic agent, such as 5% homatropine two to three times a day, is indicated. Therapeutic soft contact lens use with appropriate antibiotic therapy can also be considered as alternatives. These patients must be monitored carefully to ensure that no secondary infection develops. If the ulcer deepens, a new infiltrate forms, or if there is an increase in the anterior chamber reaction while the patient is being treated, cultures should be performed to rule out bacterial or fungal infection. Cyanoacrylate glue, conjunctival flap surgery, or tarsorrhaphy may be required if healing does not occur. [Pg.529]

Re-epithelialization of comeal defects appears to depend in part upon the interaction of MMPs with matrix adhesion proteins on the exposed stromal surface to form the scaffolding for migrating basal epithelial cells (Fini et al 1996). Relative overexpression of MMPs may be a significant factor in refractory or indolent ulceration and in chronic superficial erosion in the horse. [Pg.234]

Solution of Amznonio-Sul-phate of Copper, Dissolve 1 drachm of tho ammonio-sulphate in 1 pint water, and filter. This is stimulant and detergent. Ap-pbed as a lotion to indolent ulcers and, largely diluted, to remove specks on tho cornea. Also used as a test for arsenical compounds, with which it throws down a groen precipitate. [Pg.294]

Vegetable Caustic, Bum oak or beech wood to ashes. Make a lye from them, and simmer it till it becomes rather thicker than cream tho evaporation may be continued in tho sun. Spread on leather when used. It is valuable in cancers, fistulas, scrof nloos and indolent ulcers, where there is proud flesh. [Pg.304]

Actions and ITses.—Internally —In large doses, irritant and corrosive poison seldom administered medicinally, although, in doses of from five to ten grains, it has been recommended in glanders and farcy. Externally —Caustic to indolent ulcers, fistulas, and bony tumours as a stimulant in scab, mange, and similar affections also as an anti-parasitic for the destruction of pediculi, acari, < c. [Pg.111]

Uses.—Externally —Mild astringent and excitant to foul and indolent ulcers, and to canker in the mouth. [Pg.247]

Balsam of Peru is used extensively in topical preparations for the treatment of wounds, skin graft healing, indolent ulcers, scabies, diaper rash, hemorrhoids, anal pmritus, bedsores, intertrigo, eczema, and others in hair tonic and antidandruff preparations, feminine hygiene sprays, and as a fixative or fragrance... [Pg.70]

Root bark has been and probably still is used as astringent, tonic, and stimulant to indolent ulcers and as an ingredient in Composition Powder used for colds and chills. [Pg.81]

Elemi is occasionally used as a topical remedy in the form of an ointment, more particularly in ulcerous complaints of nn old and indolent nature. It is extensively employed for varnishes. [Pg.840]

Tolazoline hydrochloride Indolent cutaneous ulcers Increases local blood flow and tissue healing by inhibiting vascular smooth muscle contraction 2% aqueous solution or ointment from positive pole ... [Pg.620]

Hydrocotyle has mild diuretic, antirheumatic, dermatological, peripheral vasodilator, and vulnerary properties. Traditionally, it is used for rheumatic conditions, cutaneous affections, and as a topical application for indolent wounds, leprous ulcers, and cicatrization after surgery. [Pg.97]

Heterocyclic chemistry is a large and important branch of organic chemistry. Heterocycles occur in nature, for instance in nucleic acids (see Chapter 10) and indole alkaloids (see Chapter 7). Synthetic heterocycles have widespread uses as herbicides (e.g. 1.1), fungicides (e.g. 1.2), insecticides (e.g. 1.3), dyes (e.g. 1.4), organic conductors (e.g. 1.5), and, of course, pharmaceutical products such as the anti-ulcer drug 1.6. [Pg.1]

Noninfectious indolent epithelial ulcers also can occur in HSK.These ulcers, formerly referred to as metaherpetic lesions, tend to be ovoid, 2 to 8 mm in size, with smooth rolled edges. They may be caused by damage to the epithelial basement membrane due to inflammation, tear film abnormalities, neurotropic cornea, or toxicity from antiviral medications. These ulcers may be recalcitrant, resulting in neovascularization and scarring. [Pg.528]

Silver nitrate, an ophthalmic antiseptic and topical cauterizing agent, is nsed in the prevention of gonorrheal ophthalmia neonatornm and to treat indolent wounds, destroy exnberant grannlations, freshen the edges of ulcers and fissnres, provide styptic action, and treat vesicular bullous or aphthous lesions. [Pg.645]

Use.—Astringent and stimulant to indolent wounds and ulcers, also to abrasions, sore backs, cracked heels, < c. [Pg.107]

It is sometimes given in dyspepsia depending upon debility, but recommended chiefiy for cattle in cases of chronic cough for the latter purpose it is usually combined with opium. Externally — As an excitant and deodorizer to wounds and indolent and fetid ulcers. [Pg.169]

Actions and Uses.—Externally — In scabies, urticaria, and other skin affections also applied to farcy ulcers and indolent sores. [Pg.237]

Uses.—In scab, mange, and other scurfy cutaneous affections to indolent sores and ulcers as a resolvent in glandular enlargements and applied to the skin with friction to expedite and maintain the constitutional effects produced by the internal administration of mercury. For skin affections, however, the next preparation is generally used. [Pg.255]

Although the first documented case of perforated peptic ulcer disease dates back more than 2,000 years to the western Han dynasty, the problem continues to confound physicians. In many instances, the first indication of a peptic ulcer may be the perforation itself, whereas in others, previous vague symptomatology suddenly culminates in acute perforation with peritonitis. The pathogenesis of the situation whereby an indolent or even chronic disease suddenly converts... [Pg.269]

Traditionally considered useful topically for indolent skin ulcers where antibiotics fail to achieve results. Has also been used to soothe dermal lesions and necrotic malignant breast ulcers. [Pg.358]
