Federal specifications are defined in the Department of Defense s Index of Specifications and Standards (DODDISS) D7.14 981 and Index of Federal Specifications and Standards and Commercial Item Descriptions GS2.8/2 981. These are available from the U.S. Government. Many of the federal and military standards are gradually being abandoned as the Department of Defense replaces these with ASTM standards. [Pg.529]

A detailed discussion of specifications is also outside the scope of this paper. Briefly, there are approximately 15,000 to 20,000 specifications available in two main categories, federal and military. An Index to Federal Specifications and Standards (5S) is issued annually. The index to military specifications, issued semiannually, was published in four volumes II, Army (36)] III, Navy (51)] and IV, Air Force (35). Volume I, Munitions Board, was discontinued as of October 1952 in the interest of economy and to avoid unnecessary duplication. [Pg.158]

This index provides general information on the Federal Standardization Document System, how to use the Index, and how to obtain Federal Standardization Documents. Tables of alphabetical listings are given for Federal and Interim Federal Specifications, Federal and Interim Standards, and Federal Handbooks. Also given are numerical listings for the same sources and also for the Federal Qualified Product Lists. Other tables include Federal Supply Classification (FSC) listings, and Federal Specifications and Standards cancelled or superseded during the previous year. Finally, a complete list of specifications and standards cancelled and superseded... [Pg.382]

Many ASTM and AMS standards have been adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for inclusion in the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DODISS). As such, they can be used in military procurement. Such documents are so indicated by the notation (DOD Adopted). Documents not so indictated may be DOD Adopted at a later date, since such possible acceptance is constantly being reviewed. Federal Supply Classification (FSQ numbers and Preparing Activity codes are given for all DOD-Adopted ASTM and... [Pg.396]

Department of Agriculture. It issues a number of specifications involving telephone equipment installation, ntany of which involve plastics. Its mission is not listed in the NBS Directory, nor are its specifications tabulated in the World Index of Plastics Standards and the DODISS. Its specifications and standards are listed in the Current REA Publications—REA Telephone Borrowers— and contain specifications known to involve plastics and elastomers. REA Specifications are organized similar to MUitary and Federal Specifications. [Pg.385]

Properties, Specifications, and Test Methods Standard test methods are required to measure the properties of electroplated materials. Documents on plating specifications for many phases of the plating process are pubHshed by such organizations as the Federal government, the military, ASTM, ISO, SAE, etc. An excellent cross-index of these is available (37). [Pg.151]

Standard methods for measuring the refractive index of oils and fats are published by IUPAC (standard method 2.102, Paquot Hautfenne, 1987), the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS Official Method Cc 7-25, Firestone, 1998) and the International Standards Organization (International Standard 1739-1975 (E), ISO, 1975). The last specifically applies to the measurement of the refractive index of the fat from butter, and was developed jointly with the International Dairy Federation and the American Oil Chemists Society. [Pg.767]

This computer-produced Index contains the permuted titles of voluntary engineering and related standards, specifications, test methods, and recommended practices published by some 360 US technical societies, professional organizations, and trade associations. It does not include Federal and MQitary, or company standards and specifications. This is a Key-Words-in-Context index. The title of each standard can be found alphabetically under all the significant key words which it contains. The date of publication or last revision, the standard number, and an acronym designating the standards-issuing organization appear as part of each entry. [Pg.378]
