Higher or lower quaUty at more or less cost will meet the needs of some consumers. Acetone is often produced under contract to meet customer specifications which are different from those of ASTM D329. Some specialty grades are analy2ed reagent, isotopicaHy labeled, clean room, Hquid chromatography, spectroscopic, ACS reagent (48), semiconductor (low metals), and Federal Specification 0-A-51G. [Pg.98]

Numerous tests covering flame retardancy and related matters are available. The requirements most often specified for fire resistance of a textile materials are that it must pass either Federal Specification Method 5903 or NFPA 701. [Pg.487]

Testing and Standards. Requirements for extmsion and mol ding grades are cited in ASTM specifications (79) and in Federal specification LP-389A of May 1964 (80). For fabricated shapes, FEP film and sheet are covered by Aeronautical Material Specifications (AMS) 3647 and LP-523 (81). Besides the specifications covered by the Fluorocarbons Division of the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (82), other specifications are Hsted in Reference 83. [Pg.362]

PCTFE plastic is available in products that conform to ASTM 1430-89 Type 1 (Grades 1 and 2) and is suitable for processing into parts that meet MIL-P 46036 (Federal Specification LP-385C was canceled 1988). Standards for fabricated forms are available for compression molded heavy sections (AMS-3645 Class C), thin-walled tubing, rod, sheet, and molded shapes (AMS-3650). PCTFE plastics have been approved for use in contact with food by the FDA (55). [Pg.394]

AH these grades satisfy the federal specifications for glycerol (0-G491B-2). [Pg.348]

Melamine or melamine—ureas are used in the manufacture of tmck and railroad flooring, laminated lumber, beams, exterior doors, marine plywood, toilet seats, and school furniture. The bonds in these products meet a variety of commercial, military, and federal specifications for exterior waterproof adhesives. [Pg.326]

Because branched ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons are used for their cost/performance benefits, they became the solvents of choice for many apphcations. Numerous solvent systems had to be reformulated to comply with Rule 66. This usually meant an increase in cost, sometimes accompanied by performance degradation. Rule 66-type regulations were adopted in many other states and cities as well. Federal specifications for coatings and many other solvent-containing materials also incorporate Rule 66 requirements. [Pg.262]

Specifications for sulfuric acid vary rather widely. Exceptions include the federal specifications for "Sulfuric Acid, Technical" and "Sulfuric Acid, Electrolyte (for storage batteries)" and the Food Chemicals Codex specification for sulfuric acid, frequentiy called food-grade acid (although industrywide, "food-grade" is nonspecific). Very Httie has been done to estabUsh industry-wide analytical standards in the United States, except for development of the ASTM analytical methods, designated as E223-88 and summarized in Table 12. [Pg.191]

Descriptions of sulfuric acid analytical procedures not specified by ASTM are available (32,152). Federal specifications also describe the requited method of analysis. Concentrations of 78 wt % and 93 wt % H2SO4 are commonly measured indirectly by determining specific gravity. Higher acid concentrations are normally determined by titration with a base, or by sonic velocity or other physical property for plant control. Sonic velocity has been found to be quite accurate for strength analysis of both filming and nonfuming acid. [Pg.192]

Federal Specification U-T-30C, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C., Sept. 24, 1975. [Pg.303]

Coal-tar pitch for other uses is similarly subject to a few national specifications but mainly sold to users specifications. Pitch intended for roofing, dampproofing, and waterproofing is the subject of ASTM specification D450 and Federal specification R-P-381 hot-appHed tar-based coatings (pipeline enamels) are the subject of BSS 4164/1987, amended in 1988, and, in the United States, of American Water Works Association (AWWA) specification C203. [Pg.346]

During the 1920s the following three national specifications for asphalt cements were pubHshed (/) Federal specifications, adopted in 1925 (2) the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) specifications, adopted in 1924, revised in 1926 and (2) ASTM specifications, adopted in 1922 to 1926, withdrawn in 1939, and re-issued in 1947. [Pg.370]

The Federal specifications stipulated that only those asphalts that had been demonstrated by service tests as satisfactory for the intended use would be accepted. The specifications also indicated the type and location of constmction and the relative amount of traffic for each of the grades. The AASHTO specifications indicated that the use of each grade depended on the type of road, climate, and traffic. The ASTM suggested the type of constmction for which each grade would be used. [Pg.370]

Modem plants generally produce carbon disulfide of about 99.99% purity. High product quaUty is ensured by closely controlled continuous fractional distillation. Reagent and U.S. Federal specifications, and typical commercial-grade quaUty are Hsted in Table 5. [Pg.32]

Federal Specifications O-C-303D, Aug. 13,1985 0-A-498B, United States General Services Administration (GSA), July 11, 1985 0-S-588C, June 20, 1985 0-S-595B, May 15,1967 O-P-559, May 26,1952. [Pg.151]

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for protection of human health and welfare. These standards are defined in terms of concentration and hme span for a specific pollutant for example, the NAAQS for carbon monoxide is 9 ppmV for 8 hr, not to be exceeded more than once per year. For a state or local government to establish compliance with a National Ambient Air Quality Standard, measurements of the actual air quality must be made. To obtain these measurements, state and local governments have established stationary monitoring networks with instrumentation complying with federal specifications, as discussed in Chapter 14. The results of these measurements determine whether a given location is violating the air quality standard. [Pg.216]
