Doxycycline inhibits the detachment of SM-exposed HaCaT cells in culture from the growth substrate. However, analysis of the metabolic activity of the adherent cells reveals that doxycycline treatment does not maintain cell viability. It is suggested that doxycycline and other matrix metalloprotease inhibitors may have a role to play in therapeutic intervention against SM, only as a combination therapy (Lindsay et al, 2007). Human keratinocyte cell lines were pretreated with mixtures of methenamine and glutathione prior to SM exposure. Though it is possible to protect the cell cultures from the toxic effects of SM, it will be effective only as a pretreatment (Smith et al, 1997). [Pg.907]

In the naphthoquinone group, a number of lapacho compounds, the most common naphthoquinonic constituents of the inner bark of Tabebuia impetiginosa (Mart ex D C.) Standi were evaluated in vitro against the growth of the human keratinocyte cell line HaCaT. All compounds inhibited keratinocyte growth and appear to be promising as effective antipsoriatic agent [147],... [Pg.324]

Evidences indicate that keratinocytes and dendritic cells present sensitizer-specific receptors capable of recognizing allergens and irritants [53, 54]. Human keratinocyte cell lines are induced to secrete reactive oxygen species [ROS] and nitrogen species after the addition of allergens and irritants in the culture indicating that oxidative stress is a related process [55, 56]. [Pg.39]

Diploicin (77) Cytotoxic against B16 (murine melanoma) and HaCaT (human keratinocyte) cell lines Buellia canescens (Dicks.) De Not. [99]... [Pg.250]

The cytotoxicity of diploicin (77) was evaluated by Millot and coworkers in 2009 against B16 (murine melanoma) and HaCaT (human keratinocyte) cell lines [100]. Pannarin (66), a secondary metabolite from lichen Diploicia canescens, was tested by two different research groups for its inhibitory potential against DU-145 prostate carcinoma [100] and M14 (human melanoma) cell lines with positive results [96]. Recently, the cytotoxicity of proto-lichesterinic acid (8) against HeLa cell lines has been evaluated by Brisdelli and coworkers. Its activity is based on its abdity to induce cell death through activation of caspases-3, -8, and -9 [101]. [Pg.251]
