Hardware additions

Changes to the hardware additional memory, processor upgrade, disk increases, etc. [Pg.495]

Sometimes older NICs can conflict with newer Plug-and-Play (PnP) hardware. Additionally, some newer NICs with PnP capability don t like some kinds of networking software. To resolve a PnP conflict of the latter type, disable PnP on the NIC either with a jumper or with the software setup program. In this chapter, we will assume that your NIC is installed and the drivers are loaded. For more information on resolving hardware issues, refer to Chapter 16. [Pg.724]

An important hardware addition in the development of fiber-spinning protocols is the availability of customized wet-spinning apparatus from Nakamura Services Co. in Japan (Figure 7.9). [Pg.245]

RobotBASIC is a full-featured, powerful, yeteasy-to-use programming language with an integrated robot simulator. RobotBASlC s inbuilt functions and commands enable full control over the serial and other I/O ports thus providing the ability to directly control external hardware. Additionally... [Pg.249]

Casting alloys are used in outboard motor stmctuial parts and housings subject to continuous or intermittent immersion, motor hoods, shrouds, and miscellaneous parts, including fittings and hardware. Additional marine applications are in sonobuoys, navigation markers, rowboats, canoes, oars, and proles. [Pg.21]

With the increase in hardware and software, larger systems can be handled with higher accuracy. Much work will continue to be devoted to the study of proteins and polynucleotides (DNA and RNA), and particularly their interactions with more sophisticated methods. Remember proteins and genes are chemical compounds and sophisticated theoretical and chemoinformatics methods should be applied to their study - in addition to the methods developed by bioinfor-maticians. [Pg.624]

The business activity of the organi2ation dictates quaUty requirements for the LIMS. Security and regulatory requirements for LIMS data define the level of effort expended to vahdate a LIMS and the data being stored. In addition, the quahty of the hardware and software used to implement the LIMS both play a role in determining overall system quahty. [Pg.517]

The fifth component is the stmcture, a material selected for weak absorption for neutrons, and having adequate strength and resistance to corrosion. In thermal reactors, uranium oxide pellets are held and supported by metal tubes, called the cladding. The cladding is composed of zirconium, in the form of an alloy called Zircaloy. Some early reactors used aluminum fast reactors use stainless steel. Additional hardware is required to hold the bundles of fuel rods within a fuel assembly and to support the assembhes that are inserted and removed from the reactor core. Stainless steel is commonly used for such hardware. If the reactor is operated at high temperature and pressure, a thick-walled steel reactor vessel is needed. [Pg.210]

Separate sample blanking requires an additional analytical channel, and is therefore wasteflil of both reagents and hardware. An alternative approach that is used on several automated systems, eg, Du Pont ACA, BM-Hitachi 704, Technicon RA-1000, is that of bichromatic analysis (5) where absorbance measurements are taken at two, rather than one, wavelength. When the spectral curves for the interference material and the chromogen of the species measured differ sufficiently, this can be an effective technique for reducing blank contributions to assay error. Bichromatic analysis is effective for blanks of both the first and second type. [Pg.393]

Inhibited grades of 1,1,1-trichloroethane are used in hundreds of different industrial cleaning appHcations. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is preferred over trichloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene because of its lower toxicity. Additional advantages of 1,1,1-trichloroethane include optimum solvency, good evaporation rate, and no fire or flash point as determined by standard test methods. Common uses include cleaning of electrical equipment, motors, electronic components and instmments, missile hardware, paint masks, photographic film, printed ckcuit boards, and various metal and certain plastic components during manufacture (see Metal surface treatments). [Pg.11]

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) emerged in the 1980s as a significant tool for fluid dynamics both in research and in practice, enabled by rapid development in computer hardware and software. Commercial CFD software is widely available. Computational fluid dynamics is the numerical solution of the equations or continuity and momentum (Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible Newtonian fluids) along with additional conseiwation equations for energy and material species in order to solve problems of nonisothermal flow, mixing, and chemical reaction. [Pg.673]

Both organizations update their standards from time to time, primarily because the continuing evolutions in control-system hardware provide additional possibihties for implementing control schemes. [Pg.745]

To allow flexibility, the database manager must also perform point addition or deletion. However, the abihty to create a point type or to add or delete attributes of a point type is not normally required because, unlike other data processing systems, a process control system normally involves a fixed number of point types and related attributes. For example, analog and binary input and output types are required for process I/O points. Related attributes for these point types include tag names, values, and hardware addresses. Different system manufacturers may define different point types using different data structures. We will discuss other commonly used point types and attributes as they appear. [Pg.773]

Additional database space must be allocated when intermediate data points are used. A system can be designed to use process I/O points as intermediates. However, the data acquisition software must be programmed to bypass these points when scanned. All system builders provide virtual data point types if the intermediate data storage scheme is adopted. These points are not scanned by the data acquisition software. Memory space reqmrements are reduced by eliminating unnecessary attributes such as hardware addresses and scan frequencies. It should be noted that the fiU-iu-the-forms technique is apphcable to all data point types. [Pg.773]

No additional hardware in the form of a separate simulation computer is necessary. [Pg.385]

It should be emphasized at this point that the speed of response is cnti-cal. The pressure transient pressure should not fall to less than 50% of the difference in pressure between the standby pump start pressure and the low oil pressure trip pressure. This is normally achievable with good design practice and the use of a switch and direct wiring. There is some tendency to use a transmitter and control through a remote computer. The latter arrangement is difficult to check on a shop test and normally is too slow to meet the requirement. An accumulator can be added and must be used if the requirement cannot be met. This additional hardware contributes to higher initial cost and possible reliability problems in the future. The direct switch method is therefore highly recommended. [Pg.314]

The two liter carbon canister does not exhibit the HC release during the run loss portion of the test, nor does it release more than the allowable level of HC during the three day diumals. Thus, for the given vehicle configuration and the level of purge volume obtained by the vehicle, it is clear that a two liter carbon canister is required for this vehicle to pass the EPA certification requirement. This conclusion has an effect on the cost of the evaporative control system, in that the additional activated carbon volume and canister size will have an added cost, as will any additional hardware required to mount the larger canister on the vehicle. [Pg.259]

Section 1. Provides a checklist for evaluating the computer hardware (equipment) and additional software (programs) required to operate the system. The flexibility and ease of use of the system and the availability of training and other types of vendor support are also addressed. [Pg.268]

Hardware can accept additional memory required to load the software and modiJfy the largest data file needed. [Pg.270]

The accuracy of a CFD program is greatly influenced by the number of cells in the grid. The larger the number of cells, the more accurate the solution. Additionally, the cost of computer hardware and calculation time combined with the accuracy of a solution depends on the preciseness of the grid. [Pg.784]
