The major features for advanced photo-systems relative to the base film are a small-size thrust cartridge and return inside the cartridge. These features require low core-set curl values and high mechanical strength. The cellulose triacetate (CTA), polycarbonate and PET materials currently used in the photographic industry are not able to satisfy these requirements. Some newly developed film materials, such as modified-PET and syndiotactic polystyrene, were also unable to satisfy such requirements. PEN films provide specifications that meet the requirements. Other Borohydrides. Potassium borohydride was formerly used in color reversal development of photographic film and was preferred over sodium borohydride because of its much lower hygroscopicity. Because other borohydrides are made from sodium borohydride, they are correspondingly more expensive. Generally their reducing properties are not sufficiently different to warrant the added cost. Zinc borohydride [17611-70-0] Zn(BH 2> however, has found many appHcations in stereoselective reductions. It is less basic than NaBH, but is not commercially available owing to poor thermal stabihty. Soft x-rays with wavelengths of 1—10 nm ate used for scanning x-ray microscopy. A zone plate is used to focus the x-ray beam to a diameter of a few tens of nanometers. This parameter fixes and limits the resolution. Holographic x-ray microscopy also utilizes soft x-rays with photoresist as detector. With a strong source of x-rays, eg, synchrotron, resolution is in the 5—20-nm range. Shadow projection x-ray microscopy is a commercially estabflshed method. The sample, a thin film or thin section, is placed very close to a point source of x-rays. The "shadow" is projected onto a detector, usually photographic film.
