The pear which is a member of the rose family, Rosaceae, is classified as a pome fruit and is closely related to the apple and the quince. The numerous separations reported in the literature include surfactants, inorganic ions, enzymes, other proteins, other organics, biological cells, and various other particles and substances. In the flotation cell, any solids that will not float, sink to the bottom of the cell where they are concentrated by a grit scraper and eventually flushed from the cell. 

A cathodic potentiodynamic scan will be conducted on an AISI 1020 steel rotating disk electrode (RDE) that has been polished to a 600 grit finish. Unfortunately, there is little comparable detail on starch behaviour under extruder conditions, at low moisture. Flotation methods allow recovery of fibers from water, which are raised to the surface on bubbles as a thick mat, which forms on the top of an aeration cell. This mat, which is virtually free of grit, is recycled to the pulp working stream. Slime growth in the aeration cell is discouraged by strong alternation of conditions such as pH, temperature, or chlorination level.
