INDUSTRY COLLABORATION WITH FEDERAL RESEARCH LABORATORIES... 

The use of thermoelectric materials (TMs) and devices (TDs) for heating, cooling, and power generation at modest maximum temperatures (e.g., 200 C) has occurred for decades now. Further developments of compositions usable to 500°C are actively underway at many companies, universities, and federal research laboratories because achieving that capability would enable the exploitation of many additional waste-heat-recovery power-producing situations.

According to the Federal Research in Progress Database, Perry and Tsao at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory are studying the chemical species and transport of thorium in soil. In other on-going projects, Krey et al. at Environmental Measurements Laboratory in New York are studying the daily intake of thorium, and Mclnroy et al. at Los Alamos National Laboratory are studying the tissue levels of thorium in the general population and occupationally exposed individuals. 

The standard stocks of the positive and negative serum were obtained from the State Research Institute of Biotechnology and Strains of Microorganisms Control of the Ministry of Agroindustrial Policy of Ukraine as well as from the National Reference Laboratory for EBI (Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Germany).

In 1887, Dr. Joseph J. Kinyoun esfablished the Laboratory of Hygiene on Staten Island, NY, an entity that was to become the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As the first federal research institution established to identify and develop cures for infectious diseases, the laboratory represented a new direction for medical policy in the U.S.

S. Richard Turner received his Ph.D. in organic-polymer chemistry from the University of Florida in 1971 and did a year of postdoctoral work at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Darmstadt, Federal Republic of Germany. Before joining the Kodak Research Laboratories in 1980, he worked in the Xerox Research Laboratories in Webster, New York, and the Exxon Corporate Research Laboratories in Linden, New Jersey. He is currently a Research Associate in the Polymer Science Laboratories at Kodak. His research interests include synthesis and properties of photoactive polymers, ion-containing polymers, and water-soluble polymers. He has over 80 publications and patents in these areas. He is a member of the executive committee of the Division of Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering of the American Chemical Society, where he currently serves as Program Chairman. 

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. (NIOSH). A federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service. It is responsible for investigating the toxicity of workroom environments and all other matters relating to safe industrial practice. Its research laboratories are located at Robert A. Taft Laboratories, 4676 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45226.
