Extruders selection

Using the approaches of Chapter 4, analyze the viscous dissipation effects found in an extruder. Select one of the extruders described in the Examples in the text or in the Problems of Chapter 7. What do you conclude as a result of your analysis ... [Pg.309]

Extruded Articles. In extmded article compounding, the most important parameters are scorch safety and flow characteristics (53). The bisphenol cure system again offers the best scorch resistance of the available fluorocarbon elastomer cure systems. Good flow characteristics can be achieved through proper selection of gum viscosities. Also, the addition of process aids to the formulation can enhance the flow characteristics. Typical formulations for extmsion grade fluorocarbon elastomers are given iu Table 7. [Pg.513]

Tape may be made by a similar process. In this case the lubricant selected is a non-volatile oil. The preform is placed in the extruder and a rod extruded. The rod is then passed between a pair of calender rolls at about 60-80°C. The unsintered tape is often used for lapping wire and for making lapped tube. Sintering is carried out after fabrication. The current most important application of unsintered tape is in pipe-thread sealing. [Pg.371]

The selection of mix ingredients may depend heavily on the type of adhesive applieation equipment used. The main types of equipment for plywood and LVL are roll coaters, spray systems, eurtain coaters, and foam extruders. When foam extruders are used, animal blood and surfactants are usually added to the mill mix. For other application systems, resin producers typieally supply the non-filler additives as part of the resin eomposition. [Pg.894]

It is always necessary to check the compatibility between the selected TPU and PVC before large scale production. A simple and practical method is to blend a small sample in the lab with a twin-roller calender or a small extruder. [Pg.142]

The competition at 200°C between an aliphatic and an aromatic amine toward the formation of an imide is a very selective reaction (Fig. 5.1) for the formation of an aliphatic imide.141 This reaction suggests that the reactive processing in extruder, for example, could be used to transform a melt-processable polyimide with an oligomer end capped with an aliphatic amine. In order to get a perfecdy alternate block polyimide-block siloxane, Rogers et al. used low-temperature transimidization.142 An oligomeric aromatic imide was end capped... [Pg.302]

GP 8[ [R 7[ Syngas generation with commercial Pt-Rh gauzes, metal-coated foam monoliths and extruded monoliths has been reported. For similar process pressure, process temperature, and reaction mixture composition, methane conversions are considerably lower in the conventional reactors (CH4/O2 2.0 22 vol.-% methane, 11 vol.-% oxygen, 66 vol.-% inert species 0.14—0.155 MPa 1100 °C) [3]. They amount to about 60%, whereas 90% was reached with the rhodium micro reactor. A much higher H2 selectivity is reached in the micro reactor the CO selectivity was comparable. The micro channels outlet temperatures dropped on increasing the amount of inert gas. [Pg.326]

Sphere> pellet > trilobe > hollow extrudate > wagon wheel/ minilith The definitive catalyst size selection will be a compromise between high reaction rate (small partiele, exotic shape), low pressure drop (large particle, exotic shape), large crushing strength... [Pg.85]

Texturized or denatured WPl retained its native protein value, functionality, and digestibility when extruded below 50 °C changes in functionality occur at 65 °C and above. Through careful selection of extrusion conditions of temperature and moisture, TWPs with unique functionality can be produced. The degree of texturization increased with increasing temperature, but temperatures higher than 100 °C may be needed to form fibrous structures with WPl. [Pg.195]

Due to the trade-off between low-temperature activity on the one hand and selectivity as well as stability on the other hand, a compromise has to be found for the vanadia concentration. Most extruded commercial SCR catalysts for mobile applications contain between 1.7 and 1.9% V205, but there is a trend to further reduce the vanadia concentration in order to suppress the N20 formation at higher temperatures and to increase the temperature stability of the catalyst. [Pg.269]

In storage capacitors it is important that we keep the dielectric constant to a minimum. This is not just a question of selecting the most appropriate polymer we must also ensure that contaminants that could raise the dielectric constant are kept to a minimum. Polymer manufacturers sell special grades of polypropylene (which is invariably the polymer of choice) that they describe as "ultraclean . These resins are made with catalysts that are extremely active and thus leave very little residue in the polymer. Such resins typically contain little or no anti-oxidant and are extruded under conditions and using equipment that are designed to minimize oxidation. [Pg.185]

Fluorescence probes possessing the PyU base 46 selectively emit fluorescence only when the complementary base is adenine. In this case, the chromophore of is extruded to the outside of the duplex because of Watson-Crick base pair formation, and exposed to a highly polar aqueous phase. On the contrary, the duplex containing a PyU/N (N = G, C and T) mismatched base pair shows a structure in which the glycosyl bond of uridine is rotated to the syn conformation. In this conformation, the fluorophore is located at a hydrophobic site of the duplex. The control of base-specific fluorescence emission is based on the polarity change in the microenvironment where the fluorophore locates are dependent on the l>yU/A base-pair formation. [Pg.42]

The materials selected for evaluation included three materials currently being used in these applications Biomer (Thoratec Laboratories Corporation, Emeryville, CA), representative of segmented ether-type polyurethanes Avcothane-51 (Avco Everett Research Laboratory, Inc., Everett, MA), a block copolymer of 10% silicone rubber and 90% polyurethane and Hexsyn (Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Akron, OH), a sulfur vulcanized hydrocarbon rubber that is essentially a polyhexene. Also selected, because of their easy availability, were Pellethane (Upjohn Company, North Haven, CT), an ether-type of polyurethane capable of being extruded in sheet form, and a butyl rubber formulation, compounded and molded at the National Bureau of Standards. The material thickness varied, but the sheets were generally about 1 mm thick. [Pg.534]

The screening of carriers, catalyst composition, particle sizes and shapes showed indeed, that a much more active catalyst could be made with Cs as a secondary promoter for the beds downstream the intermediate absorption tower. The best candidates were selected, and some m3 of each recipe were produced as 9-mm and 12-mm Daisy extrudates in a successful commercial-scale test production. The activities were as expected from the previous development work, and a 30 day activity test also confirmed it to be stable during this period. [Pg.337]
