Event Selection

As discussed in the previous section, the first requirement of the event selection is a reconstructed muon with transverse momentum pr 5 GeV and pseudorapidity —2.1 T] 2.1. Only global muons, i.e. muons identified in the tracking detectors as well as in the muon chambers, pass the selection. If more than one muon is present in the event, the muon with the highest transverse momentum is chosen. The transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of muons passing the event selection are shown in Fig. 4.10 for fe-events. [Pg.50]

The assignment between the reconstructed muon and the TrackJet is based on the result of the TrackJet clustering algorithm. The muon is associated to a TrackJet if the muon track lies within the TrackJet with transverse energy 7- 1 Gev. The [Pg.50]

A total number of 3.7 million events are selected in a data set corresponding to lpb of integrated luminosity. Of those, 49% contain a b quark while 26% are classified as c-events and the remaining 25% as udsg-t tnis. Hie pf distribution for b-, c- and udsg-svtnts is shown in Fig. 4.13. The b-spectrum contains a contribution from cascade decays b-r-c + X p, + X in addition to the direct semileptonic decays b ii+X. Impulse Noise Analysis Results. ANITA-lite measured about 130,000 distinct events, with an approximate rate of 5 events per minute. Fig. 6 shows examples of the major classes of impulsive noise encountered. The vast majority of triggered events are due to local payload interference such as switching noise from the Support Instrument Package. The duration of this class of events exceeds several hundred nanoseconds and a few events exhibit circular polarization for a portion of the pulse. Spatial response between two X-strips and between two Y-strips is shown in Figure 2. The left panel shows a relatively flat response to 60 keV total-energy events over the surface of strip X2, then drops off rapidly to zero at the edge of the strip. This section summarizes the methods used to evaluate and quantify the consequences of operational accidents, natural phenomena events, and external events selected in Section 3.3.2.3.5, Accident Selection as DBAs.
