and P-1. These ratings reflect the committee s assessment of how well an EDT would perform in comparison with other EDTs in respect to eight evaluation factors, as described in detail in Chapter 2. The results are shown in Tables S-1, S-2, S-3, and S-4. The overall approach to this assessment is explained in Chapter 4. Each committee member independently assigned a value based on the following  [Pg.23]

Development of the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model and its predecessor, the Erosion Productivity Impact Calculator, began in the early 1980s.69 70 The first version of EPIC was intended to evaluate the effects of wind and water erosion on plant growth and food production. More recent versions also evaluate factors important to other environmental issues. EPIC is a onedimensional model however, it can estimate lateral flow in soil layers at depth. All versions of EPIC estimate surface runoff, PET, AET, soil-water storage, and PRK below the root zone—these complete the hydrologic water balance for an ET landfill cover. [Pg.1075]

Values of a soil fertility index (SFI, Moran et al. 2000) or a soil evaluation factor (SEF, Lu et al. 2002) were calculated to quantify the intensity of the land degradation. SFI showed the applicability to measuring soil quality and to predicting succession rate of secondaiy tropical forest (Moran et al. 2000). The following equation was used to calculate SFI values (Lu et al. 2002). [Pg.321]

Stimulus trains of varying lengths (0.5-1.2 s) and frequencies of 10-200 pps can provide additional information. As stimulus frequency is increased, there is greater tetanic fusion and higher peak forces are produced. A force-frequency curve (F-F) can also be generated to evaluate factors that affect muscle contractile speed (time-to-peak, half-relaxation). If, for example, disease processes lead to slower contraction/relaxation time, more tetanization occurs at lower frequencies and the shape of the F-F curve will be shifted compared to normal muscle. [Pg.382]

Test specimens such as those mentioned above are often used to verify the quality of the first article through the production line and then to periodically test articles for conformance. This type of testing procedure detects discrepancies affecting the entire lot of parts, but it cannot evaluate factors that affect individual joints or specific areas within a particular joint. [Pg.431]

A comprehensive review on the application of HG to the AAS analysis of wines and beverages was authored by Baluja-Santos and Gonzalez-Portal [67]. The paper aimed to describe the fundamentals of HG, evaluate factors causing interferences and their possible elimination, decide which was the spectrometric method best fit to be used in combination with HG systems, and compare the obtained results with those of other techniques for the analysis of wine and beverages. Attention was focused on key elements such as As, Sb, Bi, Pb, Sn, Se, and Te. [Pg.470]

In addition to Ro and MF, inert matters of coal such as ash and sulfur, which do not soften and melt, are important properties of coal to be evaluated. The relations between FOB prices of coals from various parts of the world and the above-mentioned factors were analyzed by multiple regression analysis.(3) This permits economic evaluation of coals as raw materials for coke-making. Petroleum residual oils and petroleum coke can similarly be evaluated as raw materials. The most difficult problem here is how to evaluate factors corresponding to Ro and MF in coals.(6) This report presents primarily an estimation of such factors for evaluation. [Pg.264]

The isolated vascular perfused liver preparation mimics the liver in vivo and has normal cell-cell topography, vasculature, blood, and bile hows. This model is used to directly measure the contribution of the Uver in the presystemic eUminahon of drugs, and to evaluate factors that affect this process. [Pg.464]

The impact of IP chemotherapy on survival in the salvage setting is limited because of the absence of randomized trials however, there is some indirect evidence suggesting a positive inflnence. Several studies have evaluated factors that influence the response to IP therapy. A retrospective smdy evaluated the results of IP cisplatin with etoposide or cytarabine as salvage therapy. Of patients... [Pg.2477]

Descriptive epidemiologic studies do not have a temporal component like case-control or cohort studies. Rather, this type of study evaluates factors that may influence the incidence of a disease, such as demographic or socioeconomic characteristics. It is not possible to determine causality from a descriptive epidemiologic study. Rather, this type of study is often used to generate a hypothesis that can be tested in case-control or cohort studies. [Pg.13]

In determining the evaluation factors to use for this study, the committee first examined factors used in similar evaluations in the past. Each of the primary evaluation factors listed above has a number of subfactors, many of them at least somewhat interdependent. Each subfactor is expressed in the form of a question listed in a table for the evaluation factor to which it pertains, and its relationship to that evaluation factor is explained. For the Tier 1 technologies, the subfactor questions are then answered in five tables, one for each of the five evaluation factors.3 The latter tables, which are contained in Appendixes B and C, provide some specific summary information and expert opinion in response to the questions. The information presented in this report, including that in Appendixes B and C, is based on the information that was... [Pg.41]
