There is a large volume of contemporary literature dealing with the structure and chemical properties of species adsorbed at the solid-solution interface, making use of various spectroscopic and laser excitation techniques. Much of it is phenomenologically oriented and does not contribute in any clear way to the surface chemistry of the system included are many studies aimed at the eventual achievement of solar energy conversion. The physical techniques used in IC analysis all employ some type of primary analytical beam to irradiate a substrate and interact with the substrate s physical or chemical properties, producing a secondary effect that is measured and interpreted. The three most commonly used analytical beams are electron, ion, and photon x-ray beams. Each combination of primary irradiation and secondary effect defines a specific analytical technique. The IC substrate properties that are most frequendy analyzed include size, elemental and compositional identification, topology, morphology, lateral and depth resolution of surface features or implantation profiles, and film thickness and conformance. The Record of Invention. The second phase of developing a record of the invention is to condense the record into a summary form which serves several purposes. The bulk of the patent specification is the disclosure, the text and illustrations that describe the claimed invention in detail and explain how the claimed invention differs from the prior art. Modem patent disclosures contain a summary of the claimed invention, a description of the background of the invention, a general description of the way in which the invention is made and used, specific examples, and, where appHcable, drawings of the invention in general or specific embodiments. The technical information provided in a patent specification may be used without infringing the patent only practicing the invention defined in the claims within the term and territory of the patent grant is forbidden. Finally, the laboratory expends significant effort communicating results to both internal and external customers. Production, quaUty assurance, and purchasing all have various information needs ranging from the simple pass /fail decisions to statistical summaries of the data and suppHer product quahty. Customers expect to receive lot analyses in the form of a COA and often also want their own product-specific information on the document as well. This information can automatically be appHed to the COA if entered into the LIMS. Explosives. Explosives can be detected usiag either radiation- or vapor-based detection. The aim of both methods is to respond specifically to the properties of the energetic material that distinguish it from harmless material of similar composition.
