Impact assessment environmental

An environmental impact assessment (ElA) and an officially presented document entitled Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) are the instruments of risk management at the enterprise or regional levels. [Pg.537]

All chemical installations should be subject to a periodical environmental impact review. The frequency of the evaluation is established either by law or by internal company regulations. The ELA becomes an EIS when it is formally released by the company to the controllir government organizations. [Pg.537]

Identify discrepancies and their sources relative to established legislation and internal rules. [Pg.537]

3- Analyze emergency cases and check implementation of the recommendations. [Pg.537]

Determine necessary adjustments and provide information on justification and the efficiency of their implementation. [Pg.537]

An Environmental Impact Assessment is a technique by which information regarding the environmental effect of a project is collected, assessed and considered when reaching a decision on whether it should proceed. The assessment  [Pg.526]

The USEtox database is also used to develop the predictive models to calculate CEs for 3 other impacts  [Pg.14]

Exploration activities are potentially damaging to the environment. The cutting down of trees in preparation for an onshore seismic survey may result in severe soil erosion in years to come. Offshore, fragile ecological systems such as reefs can be permanently damaged by spills of crude or mud chemicals. Responsible companies will therefore carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) prior to activity planning and draw up contingency plans should an accident occur. In Section 4.0 a more detailed description of health, safety and environmental considerations will be provided. [Pg.15]

If no prior drilling activities have been recently carried out in the area, usually an environmental impact assessment (EIA) will be carried out as a first step. An EIA is usually undertaken to ... [Pg.42]

The treatment of these issues will be discussed jointly with the health, safety and environment (HSE) departments within the company and with the process and facilities engineers, and their treatment should be designed in conjunction with an environmental impact assessment. Some of the important basic principles for waste management are to ... [Pg.284]

One particular common piece of legislation worth noting is the requirement for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to be performed prior to any appraisal or development activity. An EIA is used to determine what impact an activity would have on the natural environment (flora, fauna, local population), and will be used to modify the activity plan until no negative impact is foreseen. More details of the EIA are given in Section 4.0. [Pg.347]

Site Selection Factors that must be considered in evaluating potential solid-waste-disposal sites are summarized in Table 25-71. Final selection of a disposal site usually is based on the results of a preliminary site survey, results of engineering design and cost studies, and an environmental-impact assessment. [Pg.2252]

Environmental impact assessment (ElA) is normally used to evaluate the possible environmental constraints for an industrial plant or project. In some cases it is u.sed as part of a permit process for an industrial plant, road, or other project. The owner has to show that no major environmental impacts are caused by the plant or road, or if there are such impacts, to take remedial measures necessary to decrease and monitor the impacts or relevant indicators. [Pg.1370]

Further information on the EIA can be found in Environmental Impact Assessment bv P. Wathern. ... [Pg.1371]

In the case of a large-scale development it may be desirable to combine several environmental services for a full environmental impact assessment (ElA). This is the process of examining, in a comprehensive, detailed and systematic manner, the existing environment (natural, built and social) and the development that it is proposed to place within it. By integrating the two, an objective estimate can then be made of the likely effects of the development upon the environment, including benefits and negative impacts. Special techniques may be employed to help identify or quantify these impacts (e.g. the use of interaction matrices, overlays, screening tests, checklists, etc.). [Pg.39]

Animals may not be moved for 14 days after administration of the experimental product, and records on the disposition of trial animals must be retained for 2 years. Bio-security issues will be of particular concern to the environmental impact assessment where trials involve live organisms or genetically modified organisms, either in vaccine challenge studies or as experimental products. [Pg.136]

Assessing environmental risk from effluent discharges or for formal environmental impact assessment. [Pg.308]

This is the gold standard of environmental impact assessments. It has been developed over more than 20 years, and is governed by international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. The process is very detailed, and each LCA is a project in its own right. It is far too expensive and time-consuming for screening innovation ideas. It is most effectively used for large-scale policy questions, and for justifying specific environmental claims when a new product or service is launched. [Pg.48]

An environmental impact assessment should be made for each new project, or major modification or addition to an existing process, see Section 14.6.5. [Pg.894]

When applied at the design stage of a new development it is more correctly called an environmental impact assessment. [Pg.906]

Has an environmental impact assessment been carried out for all unit processes Provide details of the assessments and identify the risk category for each process. [Pg.12]

Table 3 gives an overview of the environmental impact categories that are taken into account in the environmental impact assessment according to the baseline method that is recommended in the Dutch LCA Handbook [1], The characterization for toxicity is based on factors derived by the Usetox model [12], The impact categories depletion of water and ionizing radiation are not taken into account because reliable characterization factors are not available. [Pg.228]
