Soaps Disinfectant

Triclocarban is used as an antibacterial and antifungal agent in disinfectants, soaps, and other household products. 

The most important application for singlet oxygen generators (SOGs), namely the anti-cancer treatment known as photodynamic therapy (PDT), is described elsewhere in this series (see Chapter 9.22). However, SOGs are also being evaluated in other areas, such as hard surface disinfectants, soaps and washing powders,73 and insecticides.74,75...

Ajowan oleoresin prepared from seeds gives a warm, aromatic and pleasing flavour to food products and is used in processed foods, snacks, sauces and various vegetable preparations. Ajowan oil can be treated with aqueous alkaline solution to extract thymol (Pruthi, 2001). Fatty oils produced from ajowan seed have their use in various pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, are used in the soap industry for flavouring and as a deodorant. They are also used for perfuming disinfectant soaps and as an insecticide. A thymol-free fraction of the oil, known as thymene , finds application in soap perfumes (Malhotra and Vijay, 2004). 

Turpentine. Turpentine is used directly as a solvent, thinner, or additive for paints, varnishes, enamels, waxes, polishes, disinfectants, soaps, pharmaceuticals, wood stains, sealing wax, inks, and crayons, and as a general solvent. The chemistry of its mono-terpenes offers many possibilities for conversion to other substances, as illustrated in Fig. 28.20. There is increasing use of turpentine to produce fine chemicals for flavors and fragrances. An important use of turpentine is in conversion by mineral acids to synthetic pine oil. It also is a raw material for making terpin hydrate, resins, camphene, insecticides, and other useful commodities. These uses are included in the following summary of its applications. 

Animals should be bathed with soap and copious amounts of cold water. Using small amounts of water can actually increase irritation (Lee et al, 1984). Topically applied magnesium hydroxide-aluminum hydroxide-simethicone suspension (Maalox Max ) caused resolution signs within 2 min after application after exposure to OC. If chemical bums develop, clean wounds with a mild disinfectant soap and water. Pain control and antibiotics may be needed. Tetanus toxoid should be given if bums are present. With oral ingestions, antacids may help decrease gastrointestinal signs. 

Systemic absorption has been reported following regular use of a hand disinfectant soap containing 0.04% phenylmercuric borate, resulting in an increase in the estimated total daily body load of mercury from 30-100 pg per 24 hours. ... 

Use Starting point in the manufacture of a-naphthol, a-naphthalene sulfonic acid, a-naphthylaminesul-fonic acid solvent (Na salt) for phenol in the manufacture of disinfectant soaps. 

The most difficult part of psilocybin mushroom cultivation is the observance of the rules of pure culture technique. These are the sanitary code of mushroom cultivation. There are usually many varieties of bacteria and fungal spores in our environment floating in the air, clinging to our hands and clothing, issuing from our mouths with every exhalation. Extreme measures must therefore be taken to keep these out of our mycelial cultures, which they would rapidly overrun. The following points should be diligently observed. Work in a clean, uncluttered, dust free room. Immediately before work wash the work table and spray the room with disinfectants. Scrub arms, hands, and nails with disinfectant soap.

Decontaminate hands either by applying a hygienic hand rub or by washing with a disinfectant soap before and after direct contact with the patient or with objects immediately around the patient. 

Disinfectant Soaps,— To the soap base, which must be strong to taste, is added from 3 to 4 per cent, of coal-tar derivatives, such as carbolic acid, cresylio acid, creosote, naphthalene, or compounds containing carbolic acid and its homologues. The incorporation is made in tiie crutching pan, and further cmtching may be given by hand in the frames. 

Reviews - The experimental aspects of the chemotherapy of tuberculosis were reviewed by Batten, clinical aspects were discussed editorially. Browne reviewed the treatment of leprosy. A favorable editorial comment was made on the use of an antimutagen (quinacrlne) with standard treatment of urinary tract Infection to prevent the rise of resistant bacterial strains. Lampe examined the changing concepts in the therapy of urinary tract disease. The not unrelated fields of sulfonamides, and nitro-furans were also reviewed. The resistance development as a consequence of antimicrobial drugs in animal feeds was examined. Topical antimicrobials were reviewed in several contexts antiseptics and disinfectants, soap bacteriostats,deodorants and antlperspirants,and antimicrobial biguanides. The topical treatment of burns and the renaissance of mafenide for such use was discussed by Moncrief. Veterinary ophthalmic antimicrobials were reviewed. 

Uses Surfoclant, foaming agent for cleansers, disinfectants, soaps, shampoos, mbber, lafex... 

Do not place fingers into mouth, nose, ears, or eyes while handling chemicals. Wash hands with a disinfectant soap after handling chemicals.
