Detergents hard-surface cleaners

Because of their superior resistance to hydrolysis compared to the inorganic polyphosphates (Chapter 5.3), HEDPA and NMPA (Chapter 12.11) have become particularly important in liquid detergents, hard surface cleaners and stabilised bleaching formulations. Other applications are in textile processing and paper making, to control heavy metal ion concentrations, to reduce stains and to reduce water hardness. [Pg.434]

Several cleaning formulations for specific uses contain unreacted polyamines. Examples include mixtures of ammonium alkylbenzenesulfonate, solvents, and PIP which give good cleaning and shine performance on mirrors and other hard surfaces without rinsing (305), and a hard-surface cleaner composed of a water-soluble vinyl acetate—vinyl alcohol copolymer, EDA, cyclohexanone [108-94-1] dimethyl sulfoxide [67-68-5] a surfactant, and water (306). TEPA, to which an average of 17 moles of ethylene oxide are added, improves the clay sod removal and sod antiredeposition properties of certain hquid laundry detergents (307). [Pg.48]

FOUND IN Conventional laundry detergents, all-purpose cleaners, and hard-surface cleaners Also known as nonyI phenoxy ethoxylate or nonyl phenol ethoxylate. Researchers in England have found that in trace amounts these synthetic surfactants activate estrogen receptors in cells, which in turn alters the activity of certain genes. For example, in experiments they have been found to stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells and feminize male fish. [Pg.31]

Many liquid detergent products contain components that serve as product viscosity modifiers, added to achieve the desired consistency of the commercial product. Cellulosic polymers, for instance, are an excellent example of such an additive and various polysaccharides are capable of gelation under specific thermal conditions. In such cases, heat transfer during manufacture may be required to complete hydration and effect the necessary conformational change in the select polymer system [85], in the appropriate aqueous environment. Products requiring controlled heat transfer processes may include various dental creams, shampoos, built liquid detergents, and hard surface cleaners. [Pg.663]
