For the cyclic corrosion test, a layer of acrylosilane polymer coating (10-25 fim thick) was dip-coated onto the plasma-deposited substrates. The coated samples were then subjected to 25 scab cycles. The test results are plotted in Fig. 7. Corrosion performance (as described by the length of scribe creep) was correlated to the wattage used for plasma film deposition. As discussed in the previous section, the chemical structure and properties correlated with the deposition conditions, especially the power level applied. Therefore, atomic compositions for plasma polymers deposited at different power levels were also plotted in Fig. 7.A... [Pg.467]

Typical cyclic corrosion tests include one or more steps of salt solution exposure, humidity, drying, and/or ambient conditions. A list of commonly used cyclic tests is included in Table 1. [Pg.136]

The automotive industry has taken a lead role in the development of cyclic corrosion tests that can produce results that better correlate with field exposure. In 1984, a joint effort. Automotive Corrosion and Prevention Committee, began between the Corrosion Task Force of the American Iron and Steel Institute and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Nearly 20 years later, and after considering over 130 available laboratory, proving ground, and outdoor corrosion tests, SAE Surface Vehicle Standard, J2334, Cosmetic Corrosion Lab Test, was published in June 1998 [20],... [Pg.136]

The number of available cyclic corrosion tests are too many to outline. ASTM Subcommittee D 01.27, Accelerated Test Methods, has formalized a document on laboratory corrosion tests that is published as ASTM D 6899. [Pg.137]

Correlation of the test methods to actual field performance is forming the basis of selection of the most predictive accelerated tests. This work led to the development of SAE J2334, a new standard accelerated laboratory cyclic corrosion test that accurately predicts the cosmetic corrosion performance of automotive coated steel sheet. The results of this study are described in a series of publications [37,35,36,55]. [Pg.630]

Lab exposure—cyclic corrosion test (CCT-IV) This is a cyclic test method, consisting of three environments salt spray (per ASTM B 117), diyoff (60 °C, or 140 °F, ambient relative humidity), and high-humidity (60 °C, 95% relative humidity). Salt spray was tqtplied for 10 min, followed by 155 min at d off, followed by 75 min of humidity. Five repetitive cycles of 160 min dryoff and 80 min humidity complete the 24 h cycle. Exposure time was 50 cycles (5 cycles per week, weekends at ainbient). Results are shown in Fig. 3(f). [Pg.227]

Lab exposure—General Motors cyclic corrosion test method GM 9540P-Method B This is a four-part test The first part involved 8 h exposure to anibient conditions, with a 5 min salt spray period at the first four 90 min time intervals. Salt environment consisted of 1% NaCl, 0.1% CaCl, and 0.25% NaHC03. Spray was applied manually using a spray bottle. The second part was a high-humidity exposure (49 °C, or 120 °F, 95% relative humidity) for 8 h. The third part, defined as a dryoff environment, provided an 8 h exposure at 60 °C (140 °F), less than 30% relative humidity. Exposure period was 40 cycles (5 cycles per week weekends at ambient lab conditions). Results are shown in Fig. [Pg.227]
