Sample coating

The realized experiments have shown the large possibilities of analysis by the eddy currents method. They allow, besides the verification of the coating and the determination of its thickness, to give an overview on the percentage of the main chemical components of the controlled samples coating by a deepened processing. [Pg.289]

Galvanising should be post-fabrication, with steel sheet treated to BS2989 and other items to BS729 . Where appearance is important, designers could do worse than have galvanised samples coated before deciding whether powder coating will produce required standard. [Pg.329]

Previously no stress or applied stress lasting 16 hours with sample coated with vegetable oil prior to testing for the short-term stress-strain behavior shown. [Pg.105]

Conductive sample coatings are not needed because the gas molecules in the chamber replenish electrons on the sample surface to prevent charging. Direct observation of either wet or dry specimens is possible based on the continuously variable specimen environment. The instrument accommodates a micromanipulator, heatable stage, and gaseous environment. Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) units can also be added to the sample chamber for elemental analysis. Samples can be analyzed in their natural state, at elevated relative humidities, elevated temperatures, and in various gas environments (including 100% relative humidity). [Pg.147]

The effects of organosilane type on the VB1 release are large and show that for tablets coated twice and dried at 60 °C, the samples coated with bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane (TSH), bis(triethoxysilyl)octane (TSO), bis (trimethoxysilylpropyl)amine (TSPA) and bis[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]-ethylenediamine (enTMOS) give slower release than the other samples including uncoated mesoporous silica used for a comparison (Figure 2.16). [Pg.53]

In a different set of tests, medium-speed thrust washer sliding was done on Ti-6A1-4V. ty pe 6061-T6 Al, X-750, type 316 stainless steel, and X-750 samples coated with either a friable or a bonded commercial M0S2 coating. Tests were performed using ramped rotation speed, to assess friction as a function of sliding speed ramped load, to assess friction as a function of load or different atmospheres, to assess the effect of ambient gas on friction. Variable tests were ramped up and down, often more than once, to ascertain the reproducibility of the data. Sliding was stopped during... [Pg.183]

Nevertheless, a trend in the enhancement of the quantum efficiency is observed for samples coated with different polymers. (From Bol and Meijerink, 200f)... [Pg.629]

Clearly, the MEK absorption levels out at coating thicknesses greater than 6 mils. Sample coatings less than 6 mils lead to erroneous results. [Pg.200]

Polyperfluorohexane-coated sulfur floats on ethylene glycol for hours, whereas sulfur samples coated with the other two polymers sink after minutes, especially acrylic-acid-coated sulfur. As the surface energy of sulfur after encapsulation with a plasma polymer is brought closer to those of the rubbers, better compatibility with these rubbers is to be expected. [Pg.192]

For scanning electron microscopy of electrically insulating materials, the surface of the specimen may be electrically isolated when bombarded with electrons. This leads to charge buildup on the specimens that makes imaging or other analysis difficult. To address this issue, special sample coating steps are often required and have been discussed in Section 9.2.3. [Pg.380]

MAI,PI was introduced in the late 1980s and is one of the most successfully developed MS soft ionization techniques that uses the matrix assists laser ablation of sample-coated target to vaporize gas-phase ions for injection into a mass spectrometer. The advantage of MALDI is its gentleness compared with ESI and Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (APCI) and its ability to analyze the polar, nonvolatile, and large molecules. It has been very successfully used for the analysis of both biopolymers compounds and small molecular organic compounds (<1,500 Da). [Pg.402]

Problems include charging and overhearing of the sample. Coating samples with a thin layer of conductive material helps to overcome the problems. [Pg.113]

The factor that makes FAB-MS so different from EI-MS is that, in its usual form, the sample coating the probe tip consists of a solution or suspension in a relatively nonvolatile matrix liquid such as glycerol. This provides for a continually renewed surface exposed to the atom beam and thus spectra that are stable over a period of many minutes. No heating of the sample is required other than the localized energy implanted in the sample by the atom beam. Although complications may result from interactions with the matrix liquid, they are often less than, or certainly no worse than, such complications as thermal decomposition or ion molecule reactions, involved in other techniques for sample volatilization. In addition, FAB-MS is looking at condensed-phase systems similar to those investigated by NMR or IR. Thus perhaps the data are easier to correlate. Several reviews or introductions to the method have appeared (4, 7-9,13, 15-22). [Pg.3]

This method involves magnetization of the sample coated with a liquid dispersion of magnetic particles, and then observing the magnetic medium patterns. Discontinuities in the samples result in indications in the magnetic medium patterns different from normal patterns. The type and origin of the discontinuity along with the pattern of indication are noted below. [Pg.135]
