A common finishing item for various types of flooring are vinyl and rubber cove base trims. Generally, resin-type adhesives are used for these cove bases, extruded in parallel strips approximately 1 " to 2" apart along the back of cove base. Alternatively, cove base can be installed very efficiently with neoprene contact cements. The cove base is first put into position without any adhesive, and a light pencil mark made along the top edge of the cove onto the wall surface. The neoprene contact cement is then brushed in the space below the pencil mark as well as on the back side of the vinyl or rubber cove base, the solvent is allowed to evaporate, then cove is pressed into position for immediate bond. [Pg.689]

Wood trim pieces are sometimes placed on hard wall surfaces such as poured concrete or concrete block. These wood moldings can be bonded with SBR solvent-based adhesive, extruded from cartridge onto the back of the cove base and then pressed into position. G.3.3 Cove Base Cove base (also referred to as waU base ) is the flexible PVC-based transition product between the floor and waU in many commercial environments. The major physical property requirements for this product is the ability to bend around 90° comers without cracking and not to experience shrinkage over time after installation. The increasing number of chemical analyses performed worldwide on marine Antarctic sediments for their contents in trace elements did demand the availability of at least one CRM of this kind. In order to foster the production of such a CRM, sediment was sampled in 1994 during the eighth Italian expedition in Antarctica. The sampling site was in Adelie Cove (74°46 Lat S 163°57 Long E), close to Terra Nova Bay where the Italian Base is situated. By means of a dredge, a mass of 100 kg was taken at a depth of 80 m and immediately frozen at -20°C in chemically decontaminated 2-1 polyethylene bottles. The whole mass, always kept at this temperature, was then delivered to ISS, where an aliquot of 10 kg was retained for preliminary analytical tests. The remaining mass of 90 kg was forwarded to the EC-JRC-IRMM laboratories for the treatment necessary to transform it into the candidate CRM (17-19). [Pg.278]
