Plastic coatings

Containers. Aerosol containers, made to withstand a certain amount of pressure, vary in both size and materials of constmction. They are manufactured from tin-plated steel, aluminum, and glass. The most popular aerosol container is the three-piece tin-plated steel container. Glass containers, which are usually plastic coated, generally have thicker walls than conventional glass jars. They are limited to a maximum size of 120 mL and are used for pharmaceutical and cosmetic aerosols. 

AppHcation of an adhesion-promoting paint before metal spraying improves the coating. Color-coded paints, which indicate compatibiHty with specific plastics, can be appHed at 20 times the rate of grit blasting, typically at 0.025-mm dry film thickness. The main test and control method is cross-hatch adhesion. Among the most common plastics coated with such paints are polycarbonate, poly(phenylene ether), polystyrene, ABS, poly(vinyl chloride), polyethylene, polyester, and polyetherimide. 

Dispersion at temperatures of 90—110°C is a common final step io European mills processiog wax-coated old cormgated containers. Dispersion temperatures less than 90°C are reported to reduce wax particle size to improve pulp drainage properties on paper machines while improving paper strength (45). Dispersion has been used to reduce hot-melt adhesive, plastic coating, and asphalt particle size. These low density particles can then be removed from the pulp by flotation (46). 

Materials of Construction and Operational Stress. Before a centrifugal separation device is chosen, the corrosive characteristics of the Hquid and soHds as weU as the cleaning and saniti2ing solutions must be deterrnined. A wide variety of materials may be used. Most centrifuges are austenitic stainless steels however, many are made of ordinary steel, mbber or plastic coated steel. Monel, HasteUoy, titanium, duplex stainless steel, and others. The solvents present and of course the temperature environment must be considered in elastomers and plastics, including composites. 

The plastic sandwich roof is made from rigid polyurethane foam panels sandwiched inside a plastic coating. 

The demand for pipe-coating enamels tends to fluctuate, depending on the success of oil and gas exploration. In the United Kingdom plastic-coated pipes are used on shore. Most production is exported for use in the Middle and Far Eastern regions. 

Waterproof is normally used to describe plastic, plastic-coated, or nonbreathable fabrics. However, the term has been used for some chemically coated fabrics that aUow the penetration of air. 

Storage. Carbon steel and stainless steel should be used for all equipment in ethylene oxide service. Ethylene oxide attacks most organic materials (including plastics, coatings, and elastomers) however, certain fluoroplastics ate resistant and can be used in gaskets and O-rings. See Reference 9 for a hst of materials that are compatible with ethylene oxide.

Germanium [7440-56-4] M 72.6, m 937 , 925-975 , b 2700 , d 5.3. Copper contamination on the surface and in the bulk of single crystals of Ge can be removed by immersion in molten alkali cyanide under N2. The Ge was placed in dry cyanide powder in a graphite holder in a quartz or porcelain boat. The boat was then inserted into a heated furnace which, after a suitable time, was left to cool to room temperature. At 750°, a 1mm thickness requires about Imin, whereas 0.5cm needs about half hour. The boat was removed and the samples were taken out with plastic-coated tweezers, carefully rinsed in hot water and dried in air [Wang J Phys Chem 60 45 7956]. 

Soil resistivity measurements can be affected by uncoated metal objects in the soil. Values that are too low are occasionally obtained in built-up urban areas and in streets. Measurements parallel to a well-coated pipeline or to plastic-coated cables give no noticeable differences. With measurements in towns it is recommended, if... 

Modem pipelines with plastic coating usually have only a few defects, which can be clearly recognized from differences in the pipe/soil potential (see Fig. 3-30) [47,52], In support it can be assumed approximately in Fig. 3-24 that ... 

A single or multicored plastic-coated cable of the type NYY or NYY-O is used as the connecting cable between a protected object and an anode in soils and fresh water, and particularly in seawater, medium heavy or heavy rubber-sheathed connections of an NSHou or NSSHou type are used. Heavy welded connections of type NSLFSou are used for severe mechanical loading. In addition to these, for ships, marine cable of type MGCG or watertight cables must be considered. 

Industrial painters may suffer adverse health effects from over exposure to paint by skin contact or accidental ingestion, from excessive inhalation of paint aerosol, solvent vapour, or of dust in the case of electrostatically-applied powder coatings (e.g. polyesters containing triglycidyl isocyanurate), or from exposure to thermal degradation products from heated paint or plastic coatings (Table 5.48).
