Depending upon whether the application requires impact modification (pressure pipe or drains-waste-vent), or can absorb more filler (drain), the formulation will be custom designed to meet specific codes and regulations. [Pg.418]

Molded ABS parts are used in both decorative and protective applications in communications equipment like telephones (see Fig. 6-3), and for appliances, business-machine housings, safety helmets, camper tops, pipe fittings, shoe heels, and so on. Chrome-plated ABS has replaced die-cast metals in plumbing hardware and auto grills, wheel covers, and mirror housings. Some typical products vacuum-formed from extruded ABS sheet are refrigerator liners, luggage shells, tote trays, mower shrouds, boat hulls, and recreational vehicle parts. The possible extruded shapes include weather seals, conduit, pipe for drain-waste-vent (DWV) systems, and the like. [Pg.412]

On the basis of volume, by far the majority of PVC is extruded. Rigid applications include pressure and drain/waste/vent pipe, siding, window profile, fence deck, and rail. Packaging applications include bottles (by extrusion blow molding) and rigid sheet. Rexible applications include medical tubing, hose, wire insulation (by extrusion coating), and cove base. [Pg.84]

Pipe and fittings remain a significant market for ABS, particularly in North America. ABS foam core technology allows ABS resin to compete effectively with PVC in the primary drain-waste and vent (DWV) pipe market. [Pg.207]

At NSF, a great deal of work is done on the development and implementation of NSF standards and criteria for health-related equipment. The majority of NSF standards relate to water treatment and purification equipment, products for swimming pool applications, plastic pipe for potable water as well as drain, waste, and vent (DWV) uses, plumbing components for mobil homes and recreational vehicles, laboratory furniture, hospital cabinets, polyethylene refuse bags and containers, aerobic waste treatment plants, and other products related to environmental quality. [Pg.120]

Bypass-stream transport is a method for maintaining high sample transport velocity to minimize transportation lag. This method is used when samples are vaporized at the sampling tap and no facilities exist for returning the vapor to the process. If the sample bypass is piped to a drain or vent, this will not only waste the process material but might also pollute the environment. Therefore, the use of a fast bypass-return loop is preferred. After selecting the appropriate sample transport method, the sample time lag should be calculated and used in the tuning of the analyzer controller. [Pg.330]

The overwhelming majority of PVC resin—over 99%—sold for the fabrication of pipe, siding, conduit, and windows eventually becomes salable product. There is very little in-process waste in the pipe and conduit industry if in-process materials are unsuitable for pressure pipe, it can be used in a product ranging from first-grade drain waste and vent to slotted underground drainage pipe. [Pg.87]

ABS is a copolymer in which a rubbery polybutadiene phase is dispersed in a rigid but brittle styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) phase. The presence of rubber particles imparts flexibility and impact strength to the material even at low temperatures. Due to its excellent strength, ABS pipes are also available whose pipe walls are made of foamed core rather than being solid walls, which decreases weight without compromising physical properties. The major use of ABS pipes is in drain, waste, and vent (DWV) applications. [Pg.646]
