The reason for the popularity of anhydrous ammonia is its economy. No further processing is needed and it has a very high (82.2%) nitrogen content. Additionally if held under pressure or refrigerated, ammonia is a Hquid. Being a Hquid, pipeline transport is practical and economical. A network of overland pipelines (Fig. 4) is in operation in the United States to move anhydrous ammonia economically from points of production near natural gas sources to points of utilization in farming areas (see Pipelines). [Pg.217]

Age thickening is a common defect of UHT sterile milk concentrate, which has received less drastic heat treatment than conventionally sterilized evaporated milk (Harwalker 1982). Age thickening is promoted by high milk solids content, addition of alkali to raise the pH, and addition of citrate, phosphate, and other anions that lower the Ca ion activity. Current flowing in a cable produces PR losses. When the load current contains harmonic content, additional losses are introduced. To compound the problem, the effective resistance of the cable increases with frequency because of the phenomenon known as skin effect. A series of experiments have been eonducted in an attempt to improve the thermal stability of the Ti-Zr mesoporous mixed oxide prepared Ifom inorganic precursors. The results show that the crystallinity of the Ti-Zr mesoporous mixed oxide depends strongly on the Ti/Zr molar ratio in the gel mixtures, and a better crystalline mesoporous structure can be obtained on the sample with the 1 1 Ti/Zr molar ratio. It is also found that surfactant content, addition of sulfate species and auxiliary organic additive such as DDA, TritonX-lOO, triethanolamine and ethanol would play a key role in tailoring the mesopore structures and improving thermal stability of the obtained materials. The mandatory fortification of margarine with Vitamin A is accomplished by the addition of p-carotene (pro-Vitamin A) and/or Vitamin A esters. The carotene level is adjusted for the desired color and the colorless esters (acetate, palmitate, etc.) are used to standardize the vitamin content. Addition of Vitamin D is optional.
