Consultation, strategy development

The literature on applications of NMR to problems in molecular biology now encompasses several thousand entries, and space limitations preclude a complete exposition of the subject in this article. Amino acids, peptides, proteins, nucleic acids and their constituents, polysaccharides, phospholipids, membranes, and a large range of biologically active compounds have been extensively studied by NMR. The reader interested in doing research in this field will find it necessary to consult a more extensive treatise (see, e.g.. Refs. 60, 61). Our aim here is to give only a brief introduction to the types of problems that have been studied and an outline of the methods and strategies developed for this purpose. 

In the United Kingdom, resources for LTMV patients (ventilated > 21 days) outside of the acute care setting are extremely limited, with few specialist chronic respiratory care centers, despite the fact that LTMV patients are increasing. The following comments describe a management strategy developed by a nurse consultant (NC), to meet the needs of LTMV patients.

In such cases, those validated strategies may be modified to treat the problem at hand. In some instances, you may not have to reinvent the wheel so much as adjust it so it fits a different cart. In other cases, perhaps someone in your professional network has worked with a similar problem and can provide consultation regarding what she or he did, and whether it worked. 

In the last 5 years, catalytic antibodies have been generated for several reaction types, including the various types of hydrolysis, transesterification, amide bond formation, /3-elimination, cycloreversion, transacylation, redox reactions, E-Z isomerization, epoxidation, and Diels-Alder reactions. For more information on these and other recent developments, such as semi-synthetic antibodies, site-directed mutagenesis, and the bait-and-switch strategy, the reader should consult the appropriate authorities (Schultz, 1988, 1989a,b Benkovic et al., 1990 Janda et al., 1990, 1991 Janjic and Tramontano, 1990 Lerner et al., 1991). 

A sponsor of a medical product entering the development phase must have a clinical development plan, which is created by experienced executives and consultants having expertise and experience in the disease state for which the product is intended. Once the plan is created, with appropriate input from regulators, the plan drives a clinical development budget, with consideration of the desired timeframe for projected producf approval. After the plan is created, the management team determines the "make vs. buy" strategy, which determines the elements of fhe plan that will be outsourced. 

Combustion of aluminum particle as fuel, and oxygen, air, or steam as oxidant provides an attractive propulsion strategy. In addition to hydrocarbon fuel combustion, research is focussed on determining the particle size and distribution and other relevant parameters for effectively combusting aluminum/oxygen and aluminum/steam in a laboratory-scale atmospheric dump combustor by John Foote at Engineering Research and Consulting, Inc. (Chapter 8). A Monte-Carlo numerical scheme was utilized to estimate the radiant heat loss rates from the combustion products, based on the measured radiation intensities and combustion temperatures. These results provide some of the basic information needed for realistic aluminum combustor development for underwater propulsion.

In Mexico this task was initiated by CENAM in 1992. Particularly in the field of metrology in chemistry, the strategy has been developed in a parallel way to the work of the Consultative Committee for the Quantity of Matter (CCQM), by adopting the definitions of primary method of measurement and primary reference material given in the first CCQM meeting in 1995 [1], These definitions... 

The NRC Committee on Diet, Nutrition, and Cancer recently issued a report suggesting strategies and directions for research. These directions were developed after consultation with a large community of scientists (19). 

Another way to leverage the scarce research and development funds is to hire a catalyst-consulting group. Several catalyst-consulting companies exist to work on a confidential basis on projects sponsored by clients with an interest in business development, market strategy analysis, technological benchmarking, and new product and process innovation.
