Construction engineering

Electric and Mechanical Facilities. In most construction projects electric and mechanical facilities are to be installed. Basic knowledge of common electrical and mechanical facilities is required for the installation of these facilities and their integration into the main structure. [Pg.14]

Construction Machinety. From conveyer belts and bulldozers to scrapers, excavators, loaders, graders, compactors, cranes, and pipe-layers, many different machines are used in construction. Knowledge of these machines capabilities is required in planning the types and quantity needed for a construction project. [Pg.15]

Contracts and Specifications. A contract is a legal document that specifies the responsibilities of both the contractor who dehvers the service and the owner who receives the service. Specifications are also legal documents that the contractor must follow throughout the project. Specifications are often based on well-developed construction practices but sometimes may include special requirements added by the owner. These legal documents are developed, negotiated, and decided upon between the contractor and the owner. [Pg.15]

A. No, I am a chemist. In the first days, the construction was directed by the engineer Santo, with a staff of 50 construction engineers. Then we had all sorts of men responsible (by themselves). [Pg.179]

The construction unit was headed by a field supervisor who served as a common point for communication between construction, engineering, and operations personnel. Individual supervisors were assigned to cover CPC, metcr-silc, and central treating construction. Materials expediting, cost control, inventory, and payroll were coordinated by an accounting representative. [Pg.55]

One of the central fundamental topics in the electrochemistry of corrosion is the atomic-scale mechanism of the sequence of steps by which Fe (the most important metal in construction engineering) dissolves anodically. There are several mechanisms, and the one most investigated has a rate-determining step FeOH — FeOH+ + Cq. The involvement of OH implies that the anodic dissolution rate is pH dependent. [Pg.161]

Again, just as was mentioned in 2.5 above, in view of the Modelling emphasis this Evaluation feedback is not directly relevant however, in tenns of feedback to the organisation in a broader sense (see figure 4.3) it will be obvious that both process designers, interface construction engineers, and managers at several levels of the plant, and the company could clearly benefit from the analysis as presented above. [Pg.106]

Figure 3-3 shows a view of a typical model for an industrial plant. Errors in a plant layout are easily located when three-dimensional models are used, since the operations and construction engineers can immediately see errors which might have escaped notice on two-dimensional templates or blueprints. In addition to increasing the efficiency of a plant layout, models are very useful during plant construction and for instruction and orientation purposes after the plant is completed. [Pg.96]

In his chapter, Amulf Neumaier considers problems of construction engineering associated with the alleged gas chambers of Treblinka, and particularly the issues of whether the methods which witnesses claim were used to destroy the evidence - in this instance, the complete incineration of almost one million people - were at all technically possible, what sorts of evidence one ought nevertheless to expect, and how these conclusions compare with the evidence that has in fact been found. The bottom line is devastating the scenarios described by the witnesses are ridiculous and completely unrealistic, and do not agree even remotely with the results of on-site investigations. [Pg.42]

We have proved clearly and compellingly the cardinal error of not only Pressac s entire book, but serious studies at large rather than the pharmacist J.-C. Pressac, subject experts should deal with all matters that require special, /.< ., subject-related knowledge. A pharmacist is not the proper person to determine the presence of gas-tight doors , just as a construction engineer would not be tolerated in a pharmacy, and rightly so. [Pg.335]

One further idea that we are playing with is to find a first customer interested in the idea. We will get assistance from an architect and a construction engineer to work out the plans. They will have to develop ideas on living outside on how to handle sun, cold, wind and rain. To entice the customer we may need to provide some guarantees or co-financing. In return we expect him to share experiences with us and further customers. [Pg.162]
